AEW Dynamite 3/25 Results: Kenny Omega Defeats Swerve Strickland, Omega Will Face MJF at AEW Dynasty

With AEW Dynasty right around the corner, Dynamite this week was stacked from head to toe with action-packed professional wrestling. We had Swerve Strickland vs. Kenny Omega with everything on the line. Mixed Trios Match: Death Riders (AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, and Marina Shafir) vs. SkyFlight’s Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin) & Zayda Steel. Thekla vs. Mina Shirakawa for the AEW Women’s Title. The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong) vs. The Dogs (Clark Connors & David Finlay). Rush vs. Darby Allin, and more AEW heat live from the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, Minnesota, on TBS.

Swerve Strickland vs. Kenny Omega: Winner Takes All

The night started with the biggest fight of the night. Swerve Strickland, the most dangerous man in AEW, goes one-on-one with Kenny Omega in a winner-takes-all match. The position of EVP in AEW and the #1 contender spot for the AEW title were on the line in this opening bout.

The crowd was white hot at the beginning of the bout. Swerve got the upper hand quickly with the help of Prince Nana, which caused the action to move to the outside of the ring. It was clear from the start that Swerve wanted to put as much damage on Omega’s neck as he could. He went so far as to pile-drive Omega on the barricade near the crowd. This was after Omega delivered a beautiful moonsault off the same barricade.

Inside the ring, we saw a bunch of heart-stopping near falls. Swerve nearly ended it with a 450 splash off the top, but Omega managed to stay alive. Sensing the end, Omega tried to hoist Swerve for an Avalanche One-Winged Angel, only for Swerve to reverse the momentum into a massive back suplex that damn near moved the ring. The tension peaked when Swerve successfully hit Omega with a Vertebreaker. But again, another near fall.

Swerve went for his second Swerve Stomp, but Omega capitalized instantly, dazing Swerve with a high volume of vintage knee strikes followed by two nasty V-Triggers. Finally, Omega lifted Swerve for the One-Winged Angel, driving him into the mat to secure the win via pinfall.

Winner: Kenny Omega (New #1 Contender for MJF’s AEW World Championship)

Darby Allin

A vignette featuring Darby Allin was played to build up his main event against Rush. It displayed everything he has gone through since joining AEW, from his pairing with Sting and their tag team championship run to the moment he conquered Mount Everest. Darby seriously has nothing to lose, and everyone, including MJF, should be put on notice.

Will Ospreay Wants Jon Moxley

Ospreay addressed the fans on why he wants to take out Jon Moxley, but thanked him for giving him time with his family. He promises that he’s back and vows to take out Moxley the right way, with his bare hands. And that goes for anyone loyal to Moxley as well. Osprey ends the promo by calling out Moxley for a match at Dynasty and in Winnipeg next week for anyone who wants to defend the Continental Champion.

Mixed Trios Match: Death Riders (AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, and Marina Shafir) vs. SkyFlight’s Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin) & Zayda Steel

The match began with fists flying, followed by Dante and Darius Martin. Skyflight’s speed was on display early in the bout (their stereo suicide dives never get old).

While the action heated up outside, inside the ring, Marina Shafir pounded Zayda Steel with a series of judo throws and heavy leg kicks. The Death Riders settled things down in the ring with great tag team wrestling. Frequent tags slowed down Darius Martin.

Darius finally made the tag to Dante Martin, who almost got a fall with a springboard crossbody onto Garcia and a standing shooting star press. Wheeler interfered to get the Death Riders back in control. Steel tried and failed a hurricanrana on Garcia. Garcia hit a nice underhook DDT and transitioned to a sharpshooter with a curb stomp just in case from Moxley. 1-2-3, Death Riders win

Moxley officially accepted the challenge of Will Ospreay after the match.

Winner: The Death Riders

Young Bucks Want Payback

The Young Bucks voiced their thoughts on their failed title match against FTR. They expressed the pain of losing in front of their family but vowed to get the titles back soon, no matter who the champions are.

“Speedball” Mike Bailey vs Rocky Romero

From the start of the action, Speedball was the better wrestler tonight. Kick after kick after kick, Bailey had Rocky on the ropes. Bailey hit a beautiful moonsault outside the ring that got the fans on their feet. Back in the ring, Bailey connected with a Tornado kick, followed up with the Ultima Weapon to lock up the win.

Winner: Speedball

Recap of the Texas Death Match from Revolution / Promo from The AEW Champion MJF

A brutal replay of the Texas Death Match between Adam “Hangman” Page and MJF was played, recalling the damage it had done to both the champion and challenger. This led to a promo from MJF doing what he does best: talking. After disrespecting Hangman and anyone else who thinks they can beat him, Omega’s music hits. Omega stands in the ring, beaten and bruised, yet proud. He claims MJF is not the best in the squared circle and actually says some positive things about Swerve. After running down his accomplishments, Omega calls his shot for Dynasty. MJF accepts in a way only he can.

Cope and Cage Promo

Cope and Cage speak about the pain they have endured from FTR. Pain on themselves and on their families. Cage was more worried about himself than his family and cut a promo only Cage could. Cope says he and FTR go way back, but it won’t stop him from taking them out and winning the titles.

FTR Promo

FTR comes out to the stage with Big Stokley. FTR gives credit for their discovery to Cope but says he was dead weight and had to be cut. They believe they’re the best tag team in professional wrestling and will show it against Cope and Cage at Dynasty.

The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong) vs. The Dogs (Clark Connors & David Finlay)

The two hottest stables in AEW faced off in tag team action. This match showcased everyone involved and their wrestling ability. Roderick Strong and David Finlay’s pure wrestling styles click, and they give fans something to look forward to. Strong gained the upper hand early with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker to Finlay.

Clark Connors tagged in and dominated Orange Cassidy to start. He delivered a massive Pounce that sent Cassidy flying across the ring, followed by a series of heavy shoulder blocks in the corner.

Cassidy managed to slow down the attack with a Stundog Millionaire. He made the hot tag to Strong, who cleared the ring and almost scored a fall on Connors.

David Finlay used his shillelagh on Orange Cassidy. Strong attempted the End of Heartache on Connors, but Finlay broke it up with a nasty forearm. Finlay hit a Powerbomb to Strong, but it didn’t keep the vet down. Connors caught him with a Spear to keep him down for the win.

Winner: The Dogs

Divine Dominion Promo

The Divine Dominion states they are here to stay when it comes to the Women’s tag division. They claim no other team can beat them and plan on proving it as soon as possible. Videos of their past performances played as they spoke of their accomplishments and goals.

Kyle Fletcher’s Has Beef?

Fletcher spoke highly of himself in this promo. Says he’s the best TNT champion of all time and no one can beat him. He expressed his displeasure with the Don Callis family helping MJF and believes the family should go for all the titles. Takeshita also made an appearance to reassure him that they are on the same page.

Thekla (c) vs. Mina Shirakawa for the AEW Women’s Title

Mina Shirakawa gained an early advantage by taking the action outside the ring. She delivered a nice DDT off the ring apron. Thekla grounded the Stardom Star and mocked her by mimicking Shirakawa’s pose. Shirakawa rallied with a Tornillo and a dropkick off the middle rope, nearly scoring a three-count for the win.

In the closing moments, Thekla distracted the referee by attempting to use the belt. As the referee moved to remove the belt, Thekla pulled out a pair of brass knuckles. While Shirakawa managed to block an initial strike with a spinning backfist, Thekla connected with the brass knuckles to secure the win.

Winner: And Still AEW Women’s Champion Thekla

Kenny Omega and Speedball

Still beat up from the match earlier in the night, Omega speaks on his match with MJF coming up. Speedball comes out during the promo and wishes him luck, also lets him know that he’s waiting for his chance. The promo ends with a funny interaction between the two.

The Demand Wants It All

After a rough week, Ricochet says he is still standing strong. He stresses that this situation is unfair, and he never really lost the National Championship. He and the rest of Demand say they aren’t asking for anything anymore. They’re taking it by any means necessary.

Rush vs. Darby Allin

Darby Allin took early control by delivering a shotgun dropkick to Rush. Rush quickly shifted the momentum, launching Allin into the turnbuckles with a belly-to-belly suplex. He followed this by pounding Darby in the corner and landing a leaping elbow strike. The two competitors engaged in a violent exchange of strikes in the center of the ring, with Rush driving his boot into the head of Allin. Darby managed to land a Code Red for a very close two-count, but Rush remained the bigger man.

Rush attempted his finisher, The Horns, but Darby slipped out of the way. Darby immediately transitioned the momentum into a Jackknife pin to secure the win. After the match, Darby was taken out by the Callis Family.

Winner: Darby Allin
