AEW Dynamite 5/13 Results: Darby Allin Successfully Defends The AEW Title But Gets Attacked By MJF

The road to AEW Double or Nothing went through the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, NC, for this week’s AEW Dynamite. Live on TBS and HBO Max, AEW put on a showcase topped off by one of the most memorable title runs in professional wrestling history. With brackets revealed NCAA March Madness style, 10-man chaos, and the possible creation of the greatest factions in the world being teased, AEW Dynamite was all gas and no brakes tonight. But what is next on the path to Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, NY? For more updates on all AEW content, stay tuned to FightsATW.com.

BALD IS BEAUTIFUL

Dynamite opened with Renee Paquette attempting to get a word with Maxwell Jacob Friedman about putting his prized hair on the line for a title shot against Darby Allin. MJF refused to answer as he stormed through the loading dock, but things got worse as he passed several suspiciously bald AEW crew members staring him down, including a John Silver appearance. MJF briefly crossed paths with Tommaso Ciampa and Ricochet of The Demand, who both tried to tell him that being bald isn’t that bad. MJF clutched his fading hair and kept walking without a word.

10 MAN TAG MATCH: ADAM COPELAND, CHRISTIAN CAGE, ORANGE CASSIDY & THE YOUNG BUCKS (MATT & NICK JACKSON) VS. AEW TAG CHAMPS FTR (DAX HARWOOD & CASH WHEELER), TOMMASO CIAMPA & THE DOGS (CLARK CONNORS & DAVID FINLAY)

Chaos erupted almost immediately as both sides tried to one-up each other. Inside the ring, Dax Harwood and Orange Cassidy kicked things off, trading heavy shots before Harwood delivered a beautiful superplex to gain control. Cassidy answered with a Stundog Millionaire before firing back with a satellite DDT. The pace intensified as interference from the War Dogs, FTR, and Tommaso Ciampa repeatedly cut off Cassidy’s momentum. Once the Young Bucks entered, the tide shifted dramatically, with Matt and Nick Jackson igniting the crowd through rapid-fire double teams, stereo bulldogs, superkicks, and a dazzling tope con giro from Nick that wiped out the opposition on the floor.

Christian Cage was isolated as the heels teed off on the former champ. Adam Copeland received the hot tag and exploded into action, flattening everyone in sight, while the Bucks and Cassidy joined in. The match broke down into a nonstop barrage of dives, superkicks, and near falls, including FTR’s devastating Shatter Machine that nearly secured victory before Cassidy made the save. In the closing stretch, Clark Connors was left vulnerable after another Superkick Party and an Orange Punch, setting the stage for Copeland, who planted him with a thunderous spear to seal the victory. It was a fun, fast-paced match that gave us a rare four-corner splash to the heels.

Winners: Copeland, Cage, Cassidy & The Young Bucks

DEATH RIDERS TRAINING SESSION

Another intense training vignette aired featuring the Death Riders and Will Ospreay training atop a rooftop, blending physical punishment with psychological motivation. Daniel Garcia confirmed that Ospreay had been medically cleared but stressed that the group still needed to see something more from Legend. Moxley reflected on Ospreay’s carefree rise during his Best of the Super Juniors victory years ago, reminding him that he once wrestled purely for the joy of flight and freedom before life, responsibility, and pressure began weighing him down. Mox argued that nothing had truly changed — Ospreay could still “fly,” only now he was more dangerous, like a bird of prey. He urged Ospreay not to wrestle to protect his reputation or image but to go out and give something of himself in the ring. The segment closed with Moxley barking at YUTA for lacking aggression while the camera focused tightly on Ospreay, who quietly absorbed the lessons of The Death Riders. Wow!

HYPE FOR THE STADIUM STAMPEDE MATCH

We got a video package hyping the upcoming Stadium Stampede match, which highlighted the war between Chris Jericho and The Demand. Backstage, The Demand stood alongside Mark Davis and boasted about the group’s recent momentum, pointing to Davis capturing the National Championship as proof that their side delivers results. Ricochet then revealed the team had grown even stronger thanks to Don Callis, welcoming Andrade El Idolo into the fight. He also teased that they had found allies eager to settle old scores with Jericho’s “superkicking buddies,” setting the stage for even more unpredictability and violence. Moments later, the War Dogs arrived to make their presence felt, with David Finlay delivering a warning that if the match was going to get violent with absolute chaos, nobody was better suited for the job than the Dogs themselves.

TNT CHAMPIONSHIP OPEN CHALLENGE: KEVIN KNIGHT (C) VS. BRIAN CAGE

Kevin Knight and Brian Cage went to war for the TNT Championship. Cage overwhelmed Knight early with sheer power, shrugging off chops and flattening the champion with explosive offense, including an F-5 onto the ring apron. Despite the damage, Knight battled back with a springboard dropkick and a leaping lariat on the floor that swung momentum in his favor. Outside interference nearly shifted the outcome when Lance Archer attempted to involve himself, only for “Speedball” Mike Bailey—who had a squash match against BK Westbrook earlier in the night—to neutralize him with a well-timed kick and later take him out with a moonsault to the apron. Back inside the ring, Cage survived a stunning avalanche Frankensteiner from the top rope, but Knight refused to let the opening slip away, climbing back up and putting the challenger away with the UFO Splash to retain the AEW TNT Championship. Brian Cage looked GREAT in his return.

Following the match, Mike Bailey entered the ring to congratulate Knight on surviving what he called a tremendous battle. Knight praised Cage for pushing him to the limit and admitted he was still frustrated about falling short in his quest to become “Jet Two Belts” the previous week. Bailey quickly cut him off, telling the crowd that Knight is destined to become a future world champion, a statement that drew a strong reaction. Knight returned the respect, thanking Bailey for his support and promising that “Speedball” would one day capture championship gold in AEW as well. That encouragement sparked Bailey to announce that he wants the next shot at the AEW World Championship regardless of who wins the main event. Bailey referenced his storied rivalry with Konosuke Takeshita in Japan while taking aim at Darby Allin’s title reign, making it clear he plans to insert himself directly into the championship picture.

Winner: And Still TNT Championship, Kevin Knight

MEN’S OWEN HART TOURNAMENT BRACKETS REVEALED & JACK PERRY WANTS HIS TITLE BACK

The Owen Hart Tournament was announced, and we have some bangers! It all starts at Double or Nothing with two of the first-round matchups. Samoa Joe goes one-on-one with Will Ospreay, and Swerve Strickland gets his wish as he will take on Bandido. Double or Nothing is getting better and better. Backstage, “Jungle Man” Jack Perry cut a promo, firing off a ruthless warning to Mark Davis ahead of Stadium Stampede. Perry insisted Davis isn’t a real champion in his eyes after relying on a friend wielding a golf club to steal a win. While promising to settle matters with Davis in the multi-man war ahead, Perry made it clear his larger focus is getting his title back. Perry closed his message with a profanity-laced dismissal aimed squarely at anyone who disagrees.

WILL OSPREAY VS. ACE AUSTIN

Will Ospreay and Ace Austin tore the house down in an action-packed match with nonstop counters, athleticism, and dramatic near-falls. What began with a respectful handshake quickly escalated into a sprint of technical wrestling and high-flying offense, as both men repeatedly reversed holds and answered moves with counter after counter. Austin looked at home in the ring with Ospreay, survived an OsCutter, and came inches away from the upset after a furious rally. But just when momentum appeared to swing in Austin’s favor, Ospreay blasted him with a Hidden Blade-like kick to the arm before trapping him in a flying armbar that forced the submission, sealing a hard-fought win in one of the night’s most entertaining contests.

After the bell, Samoa Joe and The Opps confronted Ospreay with a warning ahead of their opening Owen Tournament showdown at Double or Nothing. Joe accused Ospreay of choosing Jon Moxley and the Death Riders over friendship and loyalty, promising that the decision would have consequences when they collide in the ring. The atmosphere nearly erupted into chaos when Anthony Bowens and Katsuyori Shibata moved toward the ring, only for the Death Riders to stroll out and even the odds before a fight could break out. With both sides staring each other down, Joe called off The Opps, and Mox followed suit with the Death Riders.

Winner: Will Ospreay

IS KONOSUKE TAKESHITA READY TO BE AEW CHAMPION?

Don Callis confidently declared that Konosuke Takeshita would leave Dynamite as champion, only to be interrupted by Maxwell Jacob Friedman. MJF, surprisingly respectful, praised Takeshita’s evolution into one of the company’s elite stars and predicted he would defeat Darby Allin and Kazuchika Okada before eventually facing him for the world title. But beneath the compliments was pure self-interest, as Friedman nervously admitted he had no intention of losing his hair and handed Callis the Dynamite Diamond Ring as a not-so-subtle hint to ensure Takeshita gets the job done. Before the scheming could continue, Andrade El Idolo walked in with a grin, shaking his hair in MJF’s face and sending the former world champion storming off in frustration. Andrade then reminded Callis that next time he expected to be the one chasing championship gold, leaving Callis with plenty to think about.

HE’S BACK!!!!

Backstage, Renee Paquette caught up with Willow Nightingale and the rest of the Conglomeration crew. Orange Cassidy casually noted the group still had not decided who should challenge for the AEW Tag Team Championships, prompting Kyle O’Reilly to insist that Freshly Squeezed and Roderick Strong take the opportunity while he focuses on chasing singles gold and boldly calling out Jon Moxley for the AEW Continental Championship. Willow confidently reminded everyone she’s already the AEW TBS Champion and plans to win the Owen Tournament once again, declaring she will beat Alex Windsor at Double or Nothing in round 1 of the tournament. Cassidy suggested reviving the “word of the day,” leading Strong to summon Mark Briscoe back into the fold with trademark volume and enthusiasm. Briscoe exploded onto the scene, yelling that the word of the day was “reunification,” announcing his return and immediately targeting Tommaso Ciampa for a showdown on Collision near his hometown next week.

TRIANGLE OF MADNESS (SKYE BLUE, JULIA HART & AEW WOMEN’S CHAMP THEKLA) VS. THE BRAWLING BIRDS (ALEX WINDSOR & JAMIE HAYTER) & HIKARU SHIDA

Brawling Birds and Hikaru Shida took the fight straight to the Triangle of Madness in a six-woman war. Referee Paul Turner immediately lost control as bodies flew around ringside, with the babyface trio gaining the early edge and sending their rivals scrambling to the floor. Alex Windsor nearly fell into the crowd, only for Jamie Hayter to make the save as the Birds recovered and military pressed Skye hard onto the apron. The momentum shifted again when Thekla launched herself off the top rope with a crossbody to wipe everyone out at ringside.

Hayter found herself isolated before tagging in Hikaru Shida, who hit the ring with knee strikes and a picture-perfect suplex sequence that turned the tide. The match soon turned into mayhem, featuring signature offense from every competitor. Hayter delivered the Haytbreaker and a thunderous Liger Bomb that nearly ended it before Skye Blue broke up the pin with a superkick. In the closing moments, Windsor fought through Code Blue and traded brutal headbutts with Skye, but the finish came when Thekla grabbed the championship belt and blasted Hayter with it directly in front of Paul Turner, forcing the referee to call for the disqualification. Even after the bell, the Triangle of Madness continued the assault, and Julia Hart capped off the chaos by spraying black mist into Turner’s face. Shida lingered at ringside while Willow Nightingale, Mina Shirakawa, and Thunder Rosa sprinted to the ring to even the odds and chase the attackers away.

Winner: The Brawling Birds & Shida

AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: DARBY ALLIN (C) VS. KONOSUKE TAKESHITA

Darby Allin and Konosuke Takeshita battled tonight for the AEW Men’s World Championship in a brutal showcase that pushed both men to their absolute limits. Takeshita controlled the early pace with power, catching Allin mid-dive and tossing him into the barricade before punishing the champion with knees, suplexes, and a Blue Thunder Driver off the apron. Allin, battered and bleeding, refused to stay down. The champion answered with bursts of offense, including a suicide dive into the announce desk and a Scorpion Death Drop onto the steel steps. Even after Takeshita connected with a crushing avalanche German suplex and repeated knees, Allin’s heart stunned the crowd and frustrated “The Alpha.”

Don Callis attempted to hand Takeshita the Dynamite Diamond Ring, but Takeshita tossed it aside, determined to win without shortcuts. That decision nearly paid off after a vicious elbow to Allin’s grill, but the champion fired back with desperation counters and Coffin Drops to the floor. After trapping Takeshita in the Scorpion Deathlock and softening him up with aerial attacks, Allin sealed the victory with back-to-back Coffin Drops in the center of the ring. The dramatic win preserved his title reign and cleared the path for his showdown at Double or Nothing, where MJF’s hair will also be on the line.

The celebration turned hostile when MJF entered for the contract signing. With the crowd drowning him in “Bald!” chants, he delivered a venomous promo, dismissing Allin as a reckless daredevil whose fame would fade while proclaiming himself the future greatest wrestler of all time. Allin, coughing up blood, rejected MJF’s obsession with legacy and demanded he sign the contract so he could turn him into a “bald-headed b*tch.” After signing, MJF snapped. He tackled the exhausted champion, blasted him with the Dynamite Diamond Ring, and stood over Allin holding the AEW World Title high. The assault nearly ended with an avalanche Tombstone Piledriver before Kevin Knight sprinted to the ring to make the save, preventing further disaster and inching everyone closer to Double or Nothing.

Winner: And Still AEW World Champ, Darby Allin
