AEW Full Gear 2024 Preview & Prediction

AEW rolls into New Jersey with the company under threat from Jon Moxley’s Death Riders faction. Since destroying Bryan Danielson to become AEW world champion, Moxley has been like a man possessed, and he’s on a mission to turn AEW into a company that befits his vision.

Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin have put up the most resistance so far, and it’s the former who’ll get a crack at him this Saturday. Elsewhere on the stacked card, Hangman Adam Page and Jay White will collide whilst Mercedes Mone faces a stern test when she defends her TBS title against Kris Statlander.

Here, we look at the full show and who may walk out of AEW Full Gear with their hand held high.

Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy

Orange Cassidy is fighting to save AEW from the Death Riders and the AEW title, held by Moxley, also comes as part of the deal. These guys have plenty of history to prove they can deliver on the business end of a PPV following their stunning battle at last year’s All Out, but will the higher stakes lead to an even better match here? Cassidy will go close here, possibly even within a breath of claiming AEW’s biggest prize, but Moxley, perhaps with assistance, will retain the title and strengthen his grip on the company.

MJF vs. Roderick Strong

MJF’s 2023 alliance with Adam Cole has dragged on far too long, and the feud has done nothing to enhance either man since it peaked at last year’s All In. Tony Khan may want to tie up the feud, seeing as it was Cole and Roderick Strong who destroyed MJF at World’s End, so surely MJF vs. Cole was the match for this PPV. Instead, MJF tackles Strong, and it should be a match in which he wins with minimum fuss.

Bobby Lashley vs. Swerve Strickland

Bobby Lashley’s first match in AEW could be a career highlight from an in-ring perspective as he goes in with the red-hot Swerve Strickland. Swerve is currently enjoying an outstanding 2024 following a collection of impressive matches, and this one shouldn’t drop from his usual high standards. Lashley simply must win his inaugural AEW encounter but don’t expect this to be the end of their rivalry.

Jack Perry vs. Daniel Garcia

AEW may have to be prepared to take a loss on Jack Perry or certainly rethink his potential ceiling. CM Punk references, aligning with The Elite, and driving a battered bus have all failed to elevate Perry, and neither has the TNT title. Crowds have warmed to Daniel Garcia in a big way during previous feuds, and he deserves a proper run with gold, so now is the time to give him that chance.

Hangman Page vs. Jay White

This potentially outstanding rivalry still hasn’t hit its stride yet, so expect to see an outcome that will pave the way for another meeting later in the year. White badly needs to sink his teeth into something meaty in AEW, and Hangman can be the catalyst for him to push on, similar to how Swerve Strickland did following his time with the deranged cowboy. This feels like the moment to have Hangman win, but White could get the upper hand with a serious gimmick attached at World’s End.

Private Party vs. The Acclaimed vs. Kings of The Black Throne vs. The Outrunners

There’s no chance the belts come off Private Party after their recent epic win over The Young Bucks, but we may see who their next feud is against. The Outrunners have built up a lot of momentum in the past few months, and if there’s plenty of vocal support for them in New Jersey then they could be the next main contenders. AEW seems to be focusing more on its struggling tag division, which could be the match that allows some performers to break out.

Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher

This will undoubtedly be the best match of the night as these two have constantly set a high standard bell to bell. If this PPV was closer to next year’s Grand Slam, scheduled for Australia, then the plan might’ve been to build Fletcher for a hero’s welcome down under. There’s still time for that to happen without him beating Ospreay, and with the Brit set to be a prominent main-eventer in 2025, he should get the win in a classic match.

Mercedes Mone vs. Kris Statlander

This slow-building feud exploded into life recently when the pair both went through a wall backstage, but that’s still not enough to convince people that Statlander will leave with the TBS belt. Mone’s 2024 has not been as spectacular as she or Tony Khan may have envisaged, but a win over Statlander can hopefully push her toward the superstardom that many expected. 2025 will be the year that Mone goes for the big title in AEW, the women’s strap currently held by Mariah May, and a win here can help her gain more momentum.
