After Saturday’s Victory, Raul Curiel Becomes A Promotional Free Agent

After a tough but unanimous decision victory over Quintin Randall on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, welterweight Raul Curiel (18-0-1, 14 KOs) is officially a promotional free agent after fulfilling his contract with Golden Boy Promotions.

The relationship between Curiel and Golden Boy began in February 2017, when he officially turned pro and signed with the promotional company led by Oscar De La Hoya. Since signing with Golden Boy, Curiel has fought in many fan-friendly bouts, including the most recent against Alexis Rocha. Although the rematch was set, Rocha missed weight, preventing a second meeting while with Golden Boy. Now Curiel is a promotional free agent and will look to see if other promotional outfits will offer a deal to the 30-year-old undefeated welterweight.

Here is what Curiel had to say, according to a press release that was sent out on Monday.

“I’m extremely excited about the next chapter of my boxing career,” said Curiel. “I want to thank Oscar De La Hoya, Eric Gomez, and the entire Golden Boy team for believing in me and helping me reach this point. I’m grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together. Now it’s time to sit down with my team and evaluate what’s best for my future. My goal has always been to become a world champion, and I’m ready for the biggest fights the welterweight division has to offer.”

Curiel is currently ranked number one by the WBA and number two by the WBC. This puts him in a strong position to land somewhere soon, which could also draw interest from Zuffa Boxing. We’ll see where Curiel, who is managed by Frank Espinoza Sr., lands.
