Puello kept landing a check right hook, which caught Russell coming in throughout the first round. Puello was moving smartly and utilized the mid-range well, which allowed him to land his right jab. Russell remained patient with his punch output but made mental notes of what he needed to do later in the fight.

Russell kept landing the 1-2 down the middle in the sixth round, while Puello kept countering with the right hook to the head. Russell kept walking down Puello and forced him to fight. The seventh round was all Puello as he kept landing a straight left hand and using his legs to escape from Russell. Puello displayed his slickness, and Russell struggled to make adjustments throughout the round.
Puello continued to have his way as in the eighth round, he kept landing a straight left hand that kept stopping Russell in his tracks forcing him to reset. At the beginning of the ninth round, the referee took one point away from Puello for excessive holding. Russell took that as an opportunity to unload his offense, and Puello fired back, ending the round filled with fireworks. Puello continued to land the straight left hand, which Russell had no answer for. Russell’s problems with the southpaw Puello continued to show in the tenth round.

Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs) & Terrell Gausha (24-4-1, 12 KOs) put together a stinker of a fight to open up the PPV card, and what makes matters worse is the scorecards that reflected a completely different fight than the one that occurred. All three judges saw this 119-109, 118-110 & 118-110 for Adames as he retains his WBC middleweight title.
Adames started out with a conventional stance in the first round. He threw his left jab out there, but both men were reserved about their punch output. Gausha picked up the pace with a pesky left jab in the second round, while Adames was cautious. Gausha kept his distance throughout the round, which did not allow Adames to make his way inside. It continued to be a Gausha jab fest as Adames struggled to pull the trigger on his punches in the third round. Adames appeared uncomfortable and couldn’t figure out how to get inside and land his overhand right.
The fourth round was more of the same, but in the fifth, Gausha kept his distance and landed an effective left jab while Adames threw a wild overhand right, which only landed a few times. Adames did not show any sense of urgency throughout the sixth round.

After being yelled at by his trainer, Ismael Salas, Adames threw big combinations in the seventh round. An overhand right by Adames buzzed Gausha, but Adames was unable to capitalize off of it. The eighth round had some back-and-forth action, as the fight’s first half was not entertaining. Adames picked up the pace, but Gausha’s clever distance didn’t allow for Adames to land anything big.
Rounds nine through twelve appeared to be more for Gausha, but the judges were swayed by Adames’ pressure, which was more than his punch output.
After the fight, Adames had this to say “This win is very satisfying. To have defended my title the way I did, with the convincing decision, was what I wanted after a year away. The knockout was in the making until I landed that accidental low blow. That was unfortunate. (Gausha) was able to compose himself and catch his breath after that. He was an uncomfortable, unique opponent to face. The best is yet to come! I want to thank all the fans for coming out, and I appreciate your support.”
