Add FightsATW on GoogleMiddleweight Amari Jones is ready for his homecoming.
Jones tipped the scales at 159.2 lbs., while former IBF titleholder Vincenzo Gualtieri weighed in at 158.2 lbs., for Friday’s bout at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
Jones, 16-0 (14 KOs), will main event his first fight with Golden Boy Promotions. Jones signed with the promoter last year, as the 24-year-old from Oakland, California, has stopped his last two opponents, including stopping Luis “Cuba” Arias in his last outing in February. Jones had vocal support screaming his nickname, “The Reaper,” during the weigh-in.
The 33-year-old Gualtieri defeated Esquiva Falcao in 2023 to win the vacant belt. Gualtieri, 25-1-1 (8 KOs), would lose his title to Janibek Alimkhanuly in his next fight. Gualtieri of Wuppertal, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, is on a four-fight win streak since losing his title to Alimkhanuly. All of his wins have taken place in Germany against unassuming competition.
The co-feature saw Yamil Peralta weigh in at 199 lbs., while Robin Safar, who is signed to Golden Boy Promotions, was just slightly heavier at 199.2 lbs. Peralta is unbeaten since a controversial split decision loss to Ryan Rozicki in 2022. Peralta rematched Rozicki in 2024, which ended in a majority draw. The 34-year-old from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Peralta competed in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
Safar, 19-0 (13 KOs), moved up to cruiserweight in 2022, after a run at light heavyweight. The 33-year-old Safar’s biggest win came in 2024 when he won a unanimous decision over former belt holder Sergey Kovalev. Safar, originally from Sweden but training in Las Vegas, last fought in November, winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Derick Miller Jr.
