Anthony Joshua To Have Elbow Surgery In May, Fight Date TBD

Former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has given an update on his next fight, which isn’t good news for boxing fans.

The 35-year-old Joshua from Watford, U.K., was interviewed on the DAZN PPV telecast and was asked when fans should expect him back in the ring. His answer was not what anyone expected or anticipated to hear from the former heavyweight champion.

“When do you want me back people? I’m trying to get my money right. I’m actually going to have a little surgery on my elbow sometime in May. I’m finalizing the details, which will see me out of the gym for maybe 6-8 weeks, and then as soon as I’m good, I’ll be back.”

Looking at the timeline Joshua gave, we won’t see him in the ring for a fight until at least September, which will put him a year removed from his last fight, a knockout loss against Daniel Dubois.

Recently, Joshua has been linked to a blockbuster fight against Tyson Fury in Wembley Stadium at some point this year. Although some of the shine has come off of that all-British showdown, the desire is still high amongst fans in the UK to see two of their greatest heavyweights throw down at the most historic venue they have in London.

FightsATW will monitor this situation as more information is released to the public.
