Anthony Joshua aims to become a three-time heavyweight champion, while Daniel Dubois attempts to extend his comeback kid story and retain the IBF heavyweight title Saturday at London’s Wembley Stadium. Should he emerge victorious, Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) would become the fifth man in boxing history to hold a heavyweight title on three occasions, joining Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, and Michael Moorer.
Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) has overcome two heartbreaking defeats to reach the sport’s pinnacle, becoming a world heavyweight champion. In June, he stopped previously unbeaten Filip Hrgovic in eight rounds to win the interim IBF title. Weeks later, Oleksandr Usyk, who knocked Dubois out last year, was forced to vacate the title. Thus, he was elevated to full world champion status. Dubois also suffered a knockout loss to Joe Joyce in November 2020 as a prospect but bounced back with four consecutive wins leading up to the Usyk fight. Fresh off back-to-back TKO wins over Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic, the 27-year-old prepares to put the ‘Dynamite’ on the popular Joshua.

Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois Preview & Prediction

Under the tutelage of Ben Davison, Joshua has developed into an economical, composed, and explosive boxer-puncher. Once considered a potential elite heavyweight contender, Otto Wallin was no match for Joshua. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist broke the Swedish boxer down with his jab and followed up with thunderous rights to the head and body, leaving Wallin with no choice but to quit on his stool at the end of five rounds. And while the Francis Ngannou fight was a mismatch from the onset, Joshua didn’t play with his food and sent the former UFC titlist to the shadow realm as soon as the opportunity presented itself.
On the other hand, Dubois cannot be overlooked; he’s an improving fighter with a ton of pop. However, he typically struggles against fighters who have good jabs. Joyce used the punch to shut Dubois’ left eye and win their bad-blood showdown. The tension erupted after Dubois took a jab at Joyce’s mother, who is blind. Ironically, it was Dubois who couldn’t see straight at the end of the fight.
Joshua is the better boxer and has more tools in his arsenal. He’s been cracked before, though. Andy Ruiz knocked him down four times in a June 2019 upset win, and he was also sent to the canvas by Wladimir Klitschko in their 2017 Fight of the Year. Dubois can score an upset here, but we don’t see it happening. The combination of Joshua’s jab, power, and world-class composure will be the key to the fight. We’ve seen the moment get the best of Dubois in the past, and a partisan crowd of 96,000 at Wembley won’t help those nerves.
PREDICTION:Â Joshua by TKO in the eighth round.
