Boxing GOAT, Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs), recently surprised fans by announcing that he is hanging up his boxing gloves for good. As the champ prepares to leave the sport undefeated as a 5-time world champion and the first male undisputed champion in three weight classes, Artur Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOs) can’t help but be in awe of the fighters who made possible those things that were previously thought of as impossible.
Taking to social media, Beterbiev extended his respect to the champ while congratulating him on his career.
“It’s incredible to become the first undisputed champion in three weight classes in the history of professional boxing and did it undefeated. Some might even think that such achievements are impossible, but Terence Crawford did it,” he wrote. “Congratulations on such a historic career.”
Crawford announced his retirement through an over 5-minute-long video published on his YouTube channel.
Talking to his fans and the boxing community as a whole, he reflected on how his mindset became the perpetually burning fuel for his journey. And mentioned that he was constantly on a quest to prove all his doubters wrong.
Moreover, he explained that he is stepping away from competition not because his fighting spirit has faded, but because he feels fulfilled.
“Every fighter knows this moment will come; we just never know when. I’ve spent my whole life chasing something. Not belts. Not money. Not headlines. But that feeling. The one you get when the world doubts you, but you keep showing up, and you keep proving everyone wrong,” he said. “I gave this sport every breath I had. Every scar. Every triumph. Every ounce of my heart. And I’ve made peace with what’s next. This isn’t goodbye. It’s just the end of one fight and the beginning of another.”
“He Has Proven More Than Almost Anybody”
Iconic sportscaster Jim Lampley believes that Crawford will stay retired. Talking to the Ring, he revealed that the champ has nothing left to prove if he chooses to return.
“He architected most of his career’s biggest accomplishments at 147,” Lampley said. “Beating Canelo, that’s the ultimate career accomplishment for him so far. One reason for him to walk away would be what else is there on the horizon that matches the public impact of beating Canelo? …This is a remarkable crowning achievement for his career. He has proven more than almost anybody would have thought he could.”
