Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith Preview and Prediction

For the first time in a year, Artur Beterbiev will be in action to put his light heavyweight gold against Callum Smith. Beterbiev holds the WBC, IBF, and WBO titles at 175 pounds. While the boxing world is clamoring for a potential undisputed showdown between Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, Smith has plans to play spoiler and capture world gold again.

A burning question on the minds of boxing fans is whether Beterbiev can continue his knockout streak. He has a pro record of 19-0, with all 19 of those wins coming by way of knockout or TKO. Smith has had 30 fights as a professional, and he’s never been knocked out. Which streak will stay alive when the dust has settled?

While that is an exciting thought for fight fans, Beterbiev’s ultimate goal is to get past Smith, while “Mundo” is looking to turn the light heavyweight division upside down with an upset victory.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith Preview and Prediction

Artur Beterbiev is no doubt a feared power puncher in the light heavyweight division, but despite only having 19 pro bouts, he’s no spring chicken. He will be turning 39 years old about one week after his fight with Smith. Father time waits for no man, and Beterbiev could very well show up one night and just not have it anymore. Will January 13 be that night?

Smith is one tough customer, showing tremendous heart even when things aren’t going his way. With that said, boxers have shown that if you pressure the former world champion, you can give him problems. I think this is what Beterbiev will do for 12 rounds, which means I believe his knockout streak ends here.

I can see Beterbiev moving forward all night and Smith not engaging as much after feeling the power from Beterbiev early on. Smith will hope his opponent slows down as the fight goes deeper, but I don’t think he’ll offer up enough significant punches to force Beterbiev to take his foot off the gas. Smith doesn’t win, but Beterbiev loses his knockout streak.

Prediction: Artur Beterbiev via unanimous decision
