Artur Beterbiev’s Trainer Reveals That Dmitry Bivol ‘Just Disappeared’ From Trilogy Talks

Artur Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOs) will not be waiting around for the Dmitry Bivol (24-1, 12 KOs) trilogy fight. Following two explosive light heavyweight showdowns, boxing fans were hoping to see a redemption arc for Beterbiev. However, according to his trainer, Mark Ramsay, Bivol apparently “disappeared” from the trilogy talks.

In conversation with SecondsOut, Ramsay delved into chasing the Bivol trilogy and the fiasco that followed.

“We tried to negotiate a fight with Bivol for months, and he just disappeared. At one point, Riyadh Season wanted to organize that fight, and at one point, there were some people in Russia that wanted to organize that fight in Moscow,” he said.

The fights were indeed turning points and firsts for both fighters. The first fight that took place on October 12, 2024, saw Bivol suffer the first loss of his career, via decision. And, in turn, also lost his WBA (Super), IBO, and vacant The Ring light-heavyweight titles.

Meanwhile, the second fight, which took place at The Venue Riyadh Season, barely four months later, saw a turn of fortunes, with Beterbiev suffering the first loss of his career. Moreover, it also marked the end of Beterbiev’s short-lived reign as the undisputed light-heavyweight champion.

And now, while Beterbiev yearns for a redemption arc, Bivol is certainly not looking to pursue a trilogy showdown anytime soon. In fact, the Russian organizers even tried offering him a significant sum of money to fight Beterbiev again. However, it seems like Bivol is wary about receiving any more punishment from the iron-fisted pugilistic mayhem from Khasavyurt.

Ramsay stated that with Beterbiev growing older, they are hesitant to make him miss out on opportunities by waiting around.

“They brought a lot of money to the table, and more money than he deserved and more money than he made for the first and second fight in Saudi. He still refused it. He completely disappeared from the negotiations,” he said. “We decided to go forward with Artur. He’s 40 years old. We don’t want to wait on nobody.”

What’s Next For Artur Beterbiev?

With the trilogy being on hold, indefinitely from the looks of it, Beterbiev has another fight waiting for him. Beterbiev will make his return to the ring in November with a showdown against Deon Nicholson.

The fight is set to be on the undercard of the Ring IV “Night of Champions”  with David Benavidez facing Anthony Yarde in the main event.
