Berlanga vs McCrory Results: Berlanga Scores 6th Round KO

It was a much-needed knockout victory as Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) landed a huge overhand right to score the sixth-round stoppage on DAZN over Padraig McCrory (18-1, 9 KOs). The pressure was on Berlanga to put on the type of performance that could lure Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, so it was critical for Berlanga to win in that fashion.

The fight wasn’t as both men were very conservative as McCrory dictated the pace with his left jab. McCrory landed a counter left hook in the second round, which stunned Berlanga but was not enough for him to jump all over him.

Berlanga landed a left hook to the body in the third round that hurt McCrory some towards the end of that round. They exchanged hooks in the fourth round, and McCrory got the worst end of it. Berlanga’s left jab in the fifth round gave McCrory issues throughout the round. In the sixth, Berlanga landed three straight overhand rights that rocked McCrory, and the finishing blow was another overhand right by Berlanga. McCrory tried to get up, but his corner threw in the towel as they saw enough.

During the post-fight interview with Chris Mannix, Berlanga calls out Canelo for a fight next so time will tell what the Mexican star chooses to do.

Andy Was on Cruz-Control As He Scores A Unanimous Decision

It wasn’t the most exciting fight, but Andy Cruz (3-0, 1 KO) scored a unanimous decision over Brayan Zamarripa (14-3, 5 KOs) as the co-main on Saturday night. All three judges saw this one 100-90 for Cruz as he earned his third professional victory.

In the first round, Cruz used a consistent left jab, good body movement, and cut the ring off successfully to limit punches thrown by Zamarripa. Cruz rocked Zamarripa with a big overhand right in the second round, and in the third, Cruz landed a straight right hand on Zamarripa’s chest that nearly folded him in half. Cruz continued to change the levels of his punches, which gave Zamarripa problems.

From rounds four through ten, Cruz dominated the action with a power left jab and was effectively switched from conventional to southpaw, which confused Zamarripa. Cruz looked impressive but should have stopped an opponent like Zamarripa if he wanted to make a statement.

Shakhram Gitasov Earns A Technical Decision Over Pablo Cesar Cano

It lacked the excitement the previous two fights on the card had, but Shakhram Giyasov (15-0, 9 KOs) earned a technical, unanimous decision over Pablo Cesar Cano (35-9-1, 25 KOs). The fight went to the scorecards after Cano twisted his ankle at the end of the eleventh round. All three judges scored this one 109-99 for Giyasov.

It was a busy first round as Giyasov landed a clean left hook to the head and body as Cano kept charging in. On the other hand, Cano was showing good distance and established a solid left jab throughout the round. Cano started to take the fight to Giyasov, and he landed a huge right hand towards the middle of the second round that sent Giyasov back stumbling.

Towards the end of the third round, Giyasov landed a hard left hook to Cano’s liver, which dropped him for the fight’s first knockdown. Cano had a bounce-back round in the fourth as he kept applying pressure, with Giyasov unable to find his rhythm. Giyasov used his legs more in the fifth round while Cano chased him around the ring. Giyasov continued to work the body and break down Cano in the sixth round, which was the story for the rest of the fight.

Cano would catch Giyasov with overhand rights, but Giyasov controlled the fight with his legs. They were tangled up at the end of the 11th round, which led to Cano falling and injuring his ankle. He tried getting up from his stool, but Cano could not continue and said in Spanish, “No Puedo,” meaning, “I can’t”.
