The world of boxing was recently taken by a storm, with an announcement that the crown prince of boxing, Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs), will potentially be facing the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’, Mike Tyson (50-7-2, 44 KOs) in Spring 2026. With both fighters being mere shadows of their prime selves over the past few years, the matchup and their return have raised more than a few eyebrows. However, Devin Haney’s dad, Bill, feels that fans should give the matchup a chance.
Posting on social media, Bill Haney made no effort to hide his excitement about the matchup, hoping that the matchup would end up being a crowd puller and a major payday for both fighters.
“Let’s talk about the biggest and most important exhibition in boxing right now. Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson. Now, you’re talking about a real exhibition between two legends that deserve to get plenty of money together,” he said.
The fight announcement has undoubtedly drawn a wedge between boxing aficionados, with some expressing their interest while others question its safety and feasibility, mostly owing to the increasing age of both athletes. Notably, Mayweather will turn 49 before the fight, while Tyson will turn 60 next year. The champ, who was last seen in a lackluster, controversial showdown against boxing’s ‘Problem Child’ Jake Paul, might have a chance at retribution if he beats the undefeated Mayweather. But with the fighters’ recent track record, it would not be surprising if the fight ended up being another boring affair.

Moreover, the size difference between the duo will certainly push many to question any possible outcome.
This, however, hasn’t stopped Haney from backing the matchup, urging fans to “support a real exhibition between two legends”. In fact, he even had a message for the haters.
‘May’ check more money than the Mint [BEP] can print. A real exhibition between two legends in the sport of boxing. How can something be wrong with that? I want to come on and promote that fight because I think it’s a good fight. And if they get it on, may the best man win. May the Tyson family and the Mayweather family make plenty of money on this one. And anybody hating, let them choke,” he said.

“Detrimental To His Health”
While many believe the fight might pose a risk to the older Tyson, the champ chooses to believe the contrary. Highlighting the unpredictability around the recent matchups in the world of boxing, Tyson expressed his concerns about the risk that Mayweather is undertaking by choosing to fight him.
“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. Boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable, and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets,” he said. “I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening.”
