‘Boxing Will Be Alright Without Me’: Ryan Garcia Pens a Heartfelt Note About Retirement

Life has been a rollercoaster of sorts for Ryan Garcia (24-1-1, 20 KOs) after his recent fight against Devin Haney (31-0-1, 15 KOs). While he was initially awarded a victory, it was later ruled as a No Contest after he tested positive for Ostarine. Garcia penned a heartfelt note over a barrage of tweets announcing his retirement from the sport.

Taking to X, Garcia highlighted a host of issues he’s going through both inside and outside the sport. He revealed that his mother was diagnosed with cancer and that the supplements that he took prior to the fight were tainted.

Garcia further expressed his disappointment with one of the biggest wins of his career (against Haney) being overturned. He also mentioned that other fighters love to judge him when he is at his lowest.

‘KingRy’ then officially announced that he was stepping down from the sport.

“Y’all may catch me out and about, but as far as boxing, I don’t know. There is so much corruption I’m over it. I may do acting or singing. I’ll still be training, but I’m hurt and done with it and everyone. The sad part is I’m a great boxer, and I entertain and knock people out,” he said.

“Boxing will be alright without me. But still sucks I was fun in the game. And it was fun to punch people.”

Ryan Garcia Officially Suspended By The NYSAC

Garcia’s retirement tweets came at a time when his legal team reached an agreement with the New York State Athletic Commission. It was announced that Garcia was suspended for one year, fined $10,000, and forfeited 1 million from his purse. Meanwhile, Haney welcomed the decision and expressed his delight in the outcome.

“I want to thank the commission and the fans who stood by me during this whole process. The facts are the facts, and I wasn’t on an even playing field. Happy I was able to receive justice for what happened. It’s all part of my story, and it’s only going to make me better,” he said in an interview with ESPN.
