Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) has again announced his retirement.
‘The Gypsy King’ is fresh off a defeat against the Ukrainian powerhouse Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) during their highly anticipated rematch at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. And now, with two consecutive losses under his belt, it looks like the former champ is bidding adieu (for the fifth time) to the sport that made him a household name.
In a video posted on Instagram, Fury made a rather abrupt announcement about his retirement from boxing. “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing,” he said. “It’s been a blast; I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side.”
While the announcement came out of the blue, it is anything but surprising. Notably, Fury had already announced his retirement four times previously throughout his career, none of which have lasted long. Fury first announced his retirement in 2013, venting about the postponement of his fight against David Haye. He, however, returned to the ring barely three months later. This was followed by announcements in 2016, April 2022, and August 2022, with him momentarily ‘retiring’ from the sport to focus on himself and his family.
The boxing community was quick to react to this announcement. In a now-deleted tweet, ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul threw shade at Fury by writing, “Well, there goes the big announcement. Guess we need to refocus on the other Fury again.”

On the other hand, Promoter Frank Warren extended his support to Fury’s decision. Talking to TNT Sports, he said, “God bless him. If that’s what he wants to do, that’s what he should do. I’ve said it all along: No one should be trying to influence him in the boxing world, what he should do.”
“I Think He’ll Fight Again”
Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn is confident that this announcement is short-lived. In a conversation with iFLTV, Hearn revealed that while he saw Fury’s retirement coming, he was sure someone would bring him out of retirement.
“I think he’ll want to fight again. I think he’ll get bored. I think he’ll know that the British public want to see the AJ fight, and my personal belief is we’ll see him in the ring again. If not, good luck to the man,” he said.
