Brock Jarvis ‘Paid A Lot of Attention’ to Keith Thurman’s Career

Brock Jarvis (22-1, 20 KOs) is certainly excited to face Keith Thurman (30-1-1, 22 KOs).

The Marrickville native is currently gearing up for a showdown against Thurman at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, on March 12. With barely a few days for fight night, he recently delved into being well-rounded on his upcoming opponent’s career and about how he is approaching the fight.

Talking on “Bloke in a Bar,” Jarvis opened up about the time he received a call for the Thurman fight. “Well, recently, when I got a call for the fight, I was blown away with the opportunity. But right now, my focus is just to train,” he said.

When asked if he was looking for a fight at the time when he received the call, Jarvis mentioned that he was fresh off a knockout victory at that time (December), which meant that there was a considerable amount of hype around him. Moreover, he was fight-ready and had a hunch that he could expect a fight early in the year. But he wasn’t sure how soon he should expect a call for a potential fight.

This was when he got a call for a fight against Thurman, a fight he agreed to without any hesitation. Jarvis mentioned that he was expecting a domestic fight, but he got a lot more hyped up when he learned he would be fighting someone of Thurman’s caliber. Jarvis also had a few words of praise for his upcoming opponent.

“I’ve paid a lot of attention to his career. Just that he’s a big name in the sport, and I’ve watched his big fights. He’s a good fighter,” Jarvis said. He also touched upon Thurman’s flair for banter during press conferences, saying, “I haven’t seen him face to face. But we had that media conference. And it wasn’t nothing I didn’t expect. Sometimes, I don’t even know what they’re talking about. Makes no sense to me, like I pay no attention to it. It would be interesting when he gets here.”

“Pathetic As F*ck”

It sure looks like Thurman does not have the same level of respect for his opponent. The recent open workouts saw the duo erupt in a heated verbal exchange. During the event, Thurman was seen criticizing Jarvis’ choice of wearing minimalist shoes for the training.

“I’ll knock you out in these five-toed shoes. You gotta spread the toes out, baby,” he said. However, he did not stop there. He then proceeded to take digs at Jarvis’ career and his previous performances, saying,” You’ve been pathetic. Your performance against Liam was pathetic as f*ck. Look at your shitty ass highlight reel, b*tch. You’re gonna get laid the f*ck out. You’re an appetizer; you’re light work.”
