Canelo Alvarez Vows to Have ‘No Compassion’ For Edgar Berlanga

Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) should expect no mercy, according to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs).

The pound-for-pound king will soon put his WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles on the line in what is anticipated to be a sensational showdown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Talking at their recent fiery presser, Alvarez issued a warning to his opponent, cautioning him about impending struggle during their fight.

“I’m not going to have compassion for him. He needs 20 like him to give me a little problem,” he said.

The fight will mark the fifth time the champ defends his super middleweight titles after his light heavyweight run against Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 17 KOs). Alvarez might seem confident in his experience and ring craft. However, while Berlanga is certain that Alvarez will be a tough cookie to crumble, he is certain that his skillset as a boxer will come in handy.

“Canelo, he likes when people respect him. He feels like they’re his dog, like ‘I’m the guy that’s getting you paid.’ He’s a guy that’s cocky, he’s arrogant, you know, and he’s smiling in my face. Where we from we don’t respect big homies,”Berlanga said in response. “I don’t care if he got all those titles. I’m not going to give you respect because I want your spot. I know that he’s a guy that has a lot of experience, so I got to be on my A-game that night. I can’t slip up. I can’t make mistakes.”

“They Always Say Something Critical”

Meanwhile, as the fight date approaches, Alvarez has had no dearth of naysayers. Talking to DAZN Boxing, the champ had a message for critics, who he mentioned were hard to please.

“They always say something critical about me. I fight everybody, and no matter what, they say something. So I really don’t care,” he said. Talking about his upcoming opponent, he mentioned that he was expecting an interesting fight, He’s strong and fast, especially at the beginning of the fight. He’s big for the weight class, but it is nothing new for me. He just knows how to go forward and throw punches, and that’s why I think it’s going to be a good fight.”
