‘El Gallo’ Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) is all set test his mettle against the heavyweight maverick, Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs). With barely a day remaining for the fight, Chael Sonnen has a message for Paul: he WILL NOT win.
Talking on the Ariel Helwani show, Sonnen revealed that he doesn’t have much hope in the matchup and that he doesn’t see Paul winning in any way.
“Those odds are 100 percent representative that the public does not believe that this is a shoot,” he said. “This is the most obvious sporting event of my lifetime. Not in a local Little League game, there has never been a sporting event in my time on this Earth that has more obvious of an outcome. The odds aren’t totally reflecting that.”
When Joshua’s return to the ring in December was first discussed, the first choice for an opponent was French Olympic gold medallist, Tony Yoka, with Paul being suggested as a “potential” opponent. In fact, AJ was even clear that he has no interest in influencer boxing.

Talking about the fight, Sonnen mentioned that he has seen fighters like Shakur Stevenson and Deontay Wilder talking about the possibility of Paul winning. However, that happening would be an “insult to boxing,” or so says Sonnen.
“This match is just so peculiar that the odds are a little tighter because people aren’t convinced this is a shoot. I believe it’s a shoot, but I’m just telling you there is nobody, including Jake Paul’s brother, that believes Jake Paul can beat Joshua in a boxing match,” he said.
“Legitimately Dangerous Situation”
Meanwhile, Sonnen also commended Paul for having the guts to step into the ring with Joshua. However, he does feel that the Florida commission is answerable if something happens to him.
“If I picture in my head, I’ve got my gloves on, and Anthony Joshua is coming at me, and I have nothing I can do with him except right and left hands, that is a legitimately dangerous situation. That is a legitimately dangerous situation where the Florida commission could owe an explanation type of situation,” he said. “It is truly the biggest mismatch in the sport of my lifetime, and I respect Paul for doing it.”
