What is next for Chantelle Cameron?

Cameron (23-1, 8 KOs) recorded her second-best career-defining victory over Mikaela Mayer in the U.K. The win comes just a week before her biggest rival, Katie Taylor, has a farewell fight. For those unaware, Cameron is the only fighter to have a professional win over Taylor.

Cameron, 35, has had a rocky road since splitting a pair of fights with Taylor. Inactivity and underachievement have plagued her career, but not against Mayer.

Let’s look at some of the compelling fights she could be in the future.

Oshae Jones

Jones is a 2020 U.S. Olympian and holds a title. She has fought Elia Carranza twice, winning the first bout and drawing the second. Jones requires a compelling matchup and performance, and a main-event bout against Cameron, who would be moving up in weight from a 148-lb catchweight to 154 lb, would create interest.

Lauren Price

Price has nearly swapped roles with Cameron. Price was one of the best Olympians in 2020. She won a gold medal in women’s middleweight, hit the pros with steam, and has since seen inactivity plague her. This is the best and most evenly matched potential clash for both.

Cris Cyborg

Cyborg is a former MMA fighter who is building a solid pro boxing record that will eventually land her a major fight. Could it be Cameron in the U.K.?

Claressa Shields

I don’t love this. Shields is beyond amazing and bigger than Cameron. Cameron should get used to the higher weights before moving up to 160lbs, but Shields is the biggest star, and you will always hear chatter about who Shields can fight, since her opposition is so limited. It is within the realm of possibility, but I don’t love it.

Tamm Thibeault

A massive southpaw who just won the unified middleweight titles. If Cameron is gunning for a Shields fight, an in-house MVP bout between Thibeault and Cameron could be possible, but it would be a big leap, IMO.
