CM Punk: ‘Don’t Forget Who The OG Paul Heyman Guy is’

CM Punk delivered yet another five-star promo that will be discussed in all wrestling conversations and podcasts this weekend. During the Tribute to the Troops episode of Friday Night Smackdown, Punk felt the need to up the ante after hearing criticism from his Monday Night Raw promo.

Punk acknowledged the comments on social media about his RAW promo being a watered-down version of himself and that he isn’t giving the CM Punk everyone thought he would be when he returned to the WWE. Afterward, Punk stated he was doing his promo at the top of the hour instead of the show’s end when he felt his time was cut short. Punk went on to ask the crowd if they preferred him being on Smackdown and RAW, with the crowd leaning towards Smackdown.

Later on the promo, Punk said that he asked if the fans wanted to see him through 29 other superstars over the top rope and point to the sign while main-eventing Wrestlemania. The crowd went wild, and Punk was smiling ear to ear. He also mentioned Seth Rollins, not by name but enough to where you could figure out he was talking about him. Punk said, “You aren’t even The Man in your own household,” referring to Rollins’ real wife, Becky Lynch. The promo was filled with name drops, and of course, the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns was one of the wrestlers mentioned.

It was a brilliant promo that reminded you of how great Punk can be behind the mic when he is in a good situation. It makes everyone think that he wasn’t ever happy in AEW, and now that he is back in the WWE, it feels more like a natural fit again. How WWE handles Punk will be interesting, as before his arrival, Cody Rhodes appeared next to take the title crown and as the face of the business. Punk will return to RAW on Monday night, and if his promo is anything like tonight’s, hold on to your seats because it will be a wild ride.
