CM Punk vs Jey Uso: Who Wins The WWE HW Title At Saturday Night’s Main Event?

It’s been an interesting few weeks in the WWE Universe, starting with the recent real injury suffered by Seth Rollins. The injury caused him to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Title, leading to Jey Uso and CM Punk battling on tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME) live from Salt Lake City, Utah. Now, all that remains is to see who wins — or, better yet, what’s best for business.

To Yeet Or Not Yeet…That Is The Question

Many fans believe Uso should be the winner because he has the most babyface heat. He was recently given the opportunity to win the title at this year’s WrestleMania, but it was a brief reign. The decision to make him champion was driven by how much of the WWE Universe he had in the palm of his hand. However, that didn’t mean he was truly ready, and as the pressure mounted to maintain that stardom while holding the title, Uso showed that he might not be ready—just like his cousin Roman Reigns wasn’t ready when Vince McMahon pushed him onto fans.

Winning at SNME would give Uso another chance to course-correct his first title run with this one. That may seem like an “easy button” solution, but this is the WWE, so I’m expecting that a different story will be told tonight, one that might not conclude with the title around his waist.

CM Punk Title Run?

Tonight appears to be the start of a serious CM Punk title reign. He held the title briefly before being curb-stomped by Rollins, who then cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the WWE World Heavyweight Title. It seemed like WWE was heading in that direction because Rollins also had strong heat behind him, and his new faction, “The Vision,” needed the title to solidify its position.

With Rollins sidelined for at least six months, now is the perfect moment to put the title on Punk and have him rekindle the rivalry with Rollins at WrestleMania next year or SummerSlam. Is making Punk the champion the right decision? It gives WWE a seasoned champion who knows what to do in that role while they figure out how to introduce Bron Breakker as the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

I fully expect Punk to leave Salt Lake City as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Whatever happens Saturday night, it needs to be carefully planned because WWE can’t afford to drop the ball, especially with two fans’ favorites like Uso and Punk involved. All that remains is for this match to happen Saturday night so we can see which direction WWE will take.
