Monday Night RAW on Netflix kicked off its European tour as the first stop was Brussels, Belgium. The anticipation level was at its peak as John Cena and Cody Rhodes were booked to be at the venue. The crowd was red hot right from the start, and the minute Cena’s music hit, the energy level inside the arena went through the roof.
John Cena Blames The Fans For His Turn
Cena opened the segment and was welcomed with a loud “John Cena Sucks” from the crowd. Once the music ended, the crowd showered him with boos then the “Let’s go Cena/Cena Sucks” chants began at deafening levels. Cena just stood in the middle of the ring as he was patiently taking it all in and allowing the crowd to get their boos and chants off. After briefly dropping the mic, Cena picked it back up, and the crowd began chanting, “You sold out.” Cena would then drop the mic again, pick it up, and begin his promo.
“You are making this so easy for me,” said Cena. “For 25 years, I have been the victim of an abusive relationship.” Cena was so good on the mic, and he blamed the fans for always wanting to take from him but not offering anything in return. Cena did clear something up for the WWE Universe in a chilling statement. “I’m not a Babyface. I’m not a heel. I’m a human being.” That made things feel so real, and you can feel the disappointment in the crowd who have followed Cena throughout his career.
After a powerful 20-minute promo, Cody Rhodes’ music hits, and he walked down the aisle. The energy behind Rhodes was incredible, raising his babyface profile levels above where they were already. After a loud crowd introduction, Rhodes answered everything that Cena had said 20 minutes prior. ‘Who the hell are you,” said Rhodes with a disappointed but angry look on his face.
Rhodes went on to defend the WWE Universe and didn’t need much time to do so. He got right to the point and ended it with a powerful statement. “If THIS shows up to WrestleMania, I retire it early. Go find John Cena, that’s who I want to wrestle at WrestleMania 41, not this whiny b*tch.” The crowd went wild, and after Rhodes left, Cena simply dropped the mic and left. The buildup for this match is already at an all-time high, and they are just getting started.
Bron Breakker vs. Finn Balor (Intercontinental Title Match)
It didn’t take long for Breakker to control the match’s momentum. He went after Balor, and although Balor had his moments, it was all Breakker at the beginning of the match. After going on the outside, Breakker tried to get a running spear in, but Balor noticed him just in time to execute a sling blade. After a commercial break, Balor tried to get under Breakker’s skin, but it backfired on him.
Breakker began to get his offense going with a big power slam, but just as he was looking to capitalize on it, Dominik Mysterio and Carlito made their way down to the ring. Breakker would land a high-flying move onto Balor on the commentary desk sending both to the floor.
Balor, distracted a bit from Dom being on the outside, was able to get Breakker hurt, but not enough to get the pin. As Carlito distracted the referee, Dom pulled Breakker off of Balor, but it also caused Balor to land on his groin. Breakker took advantage and executed a Frankensteiner to get the pin and earn the victory.
Other Tidbits/In-Ring Action
Penta vs. Ludwig Kaiser- No Holds Barred Match
The Penta vs. Kaiser match was the first after the Cena-Rhodes promo that began the show. It was a no-holds-barred match and perfectly placed as the crowd was still hot from the opening segment. Penta hit some high-flying maneuvers early in the match, and they eventually made it outside the ring. Penta took Kaiser to the announce table, and after a few blows, Kaiser reversed the momentum, scooped Penta up, and executed a Death Valley driver on the announce table.
Penta’s energy is undeniable, and after destroying Kaiser with a steel chair, he executed a Penta driver, leading to a pin and the victory.
Dakota Kai vs. Ivy Nile
This was a good match as American Made was on the outside, making sure Nile was good, but then Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio ran them out. It distracted Nile for a quick second, allowing Kai to execute her finisher and pin Nile for the victory.
–Jey Uso defeated Austin Theory in less than five minutes before being attacked by Gunther. Their story continues to build as we head towards WrestleMania 41.
