Conor McGregor (22-6, 19 KOs-MMA) might just end up beating Logan Paul (1-1, 0 KOs).
The combat sports world is abuzz with the news of McGregor’s return to fighting, with an exhibition showdown against ‘The Maverick.’ While talking about the fight, the boxing community was quick to notice the size difference between the duo, with Paul being noticeably larger than McGregor. However, Sean O’Malley’s coach, Tim Welch, feels like ‘Notorious’ might have an unseen advantage over Paul.
On his Red Hawk podcast, Welch was recently joined by Joe ‘Diesel’ Riggs, Tommy McMillen, and JJ Kruljak. In conversation, the group turned their attention towards the potential showdown. “Last time I saw Logan, we saw Logan Paul at the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight and talked to him a bit. He’s not near as huge as he usually is. Usually he looks like he’s 210, 6’2”, f*cking; just yoked. This time, he looked about 190. Maybe 190,” he said while talking about his size.
McGregor’s last foray in the boxing ring was against the crown prince of the sport, Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017. Even though he lost via a 10th-round TKO, he put up an impressive fight nevertheless. Meanwhile, Paul faced Mayweather in an exhibition fight in 2021. While the fight went the distance, it was a non-scored bout with no winner declared. Moreover, Mayweather even claimed that he held back and would have smoked Paul in the first round if it had been a real fight.
Highlighting the same, Welch mentioned that the very fact that McGregor lasted 10 rounds with Mayweather is a testament to his skill in the boxing ring. “That’s an interesting fight, though. 10 3-minute rounds. Logan Paul is probably going to be bigger. I wonder what weight. Maybe at 185. Logan could probably make 180. Conor McGregor looks like he’s walking around ’85 or ’90,” he said. “I think Conor would beat him.”
“Conor Could Do The Same”
It sure looks like McGregor is garnering the support of the combat sports community in his potential fight against Paul. While MMA veteran Michael Johnson sided with McGregor, boxing superstar Amir Khan recently chimed in with his prediction.
While talking to Sports Daily, Khan said, “If that fight’s made at heavyweight, I think Conor could be fine. If you look at Logan’s Mayweather fight, he went into the ring and beat him, so I’m sure Conor could do the same. I don’t think Logan is as good as Jake [Paul]. I think Jake’s the better one out of them two.”
