Two-time WBC super-middleweight champion and the current interim champion, David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), is gearing up for a sensational showdown against Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs). Meanwhile, he has been long itching to face pound-for-pound superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs). With Alvarez demanding $200 million to face Benavidez, The Mexican Monster wasted no time sharing his thoughts on the Guadalajaran’s “retirement plan.”
Benavidez was a guest on the latest episode of Million Dollaz Worth of Game hosted by Gillie Da King and Wallo267. In conversation, Benavidez tried to make sense of Alvarez’s reasoning behind asking such a huge amount.
“He knows damn well that’s his retirement plan,” he said. “He knows damn well, I’m the strongest, I’m the fastest, and I’m the best at this weight class. If it wasn’t for him not fighting me, I’d have been champion already”.
Benavidez then shed light on the fact that he had earned the respect of Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs), a fighter that Alvarez had faced a devastating loss against.
“They know how hard I hit. They know I’m not coming to play,” he said. “I will be the one to dethrone Canelo.”
“I Really Believe In My Heart”
Arriving at MGM Grand in Las Vegas ahead of the Gvozdyk fight, Benavidez faced a host of questions about potentially facing Alvarez, and he seemed confident that he would face Alvarez in due time. “I really believe in my heart it’s going to happen,” he said. “When? I don’t know, but we’re 100 percent ready to get that fight and get that victory as well. I’m ready to fight whoever and beat whoever.”
Meanwhile, he shifted focus to his upcoming fight and revealed that he had trained hard for the fight and was preparing to deliver a knockout. Benavidez further added that he plans to conquer the light heavyweight weight and the super middleweight weight classes. “I just have a lot to prove to myself and to the world. I really do want to be the best of my generation, and until I make that happen, I’m going to keep working hard,” he said.
