Deontay Wilder Reveals What Helped Him After the Tyson Fury Losses

The heavyweight division’s very own ‘Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) is all set to return to the ring after a hiatus of over a year. He will face Joseph Parker (33-3, 23 KOs) at the ‘Day of Reckoning’ in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Wilder’s fiery yet unsuccessful clashes with Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) have been some of the most explosive fights in the division in recent years. The knockout maestro recently revealed what helped his career after losing to Fury.

In an interview with DAZN, Wilder said that a small retreat in South America played a pivotal role in bringing back his fighter mindset. “What I think has helped me a lot with life and what has made me happier because I have proof of a lot of things Fury did. But that’s neither here nor there. But what has helped me on the journey of life is Ayahuasca,” Wilder said.

He further mentioned that his experience with Ayahuasca was beautiful and even urged people to look for options for trying the revered brew. Wilder added that the retreat helped him appreciate the smaller things in life.

“I’m happier and smiling more, and a lot of people get skeptical about Ayahuasca because of certain things, and they get frightful. But I always tell people you must overcome your fears because your fears can hold you back from reaching the next level,” he said.

Should Deontay Wilder face Tyson Fury again?

Wilder first faced Fury at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in 2018. Moreover, Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title was on the line during that fight. The fight, however, ended in a draw, with him retaining his title. The duo went on to clash again in 2020 and 2021, with Fury winning both fights via a TKO.

“It isn’t so much what I think Fury did. It was what I know he did. But God said, ‘Victory is not yours, it’s his,’ so I walk on that path,” Wilder said while discussing the fight.

While a Fury rematch might be an excellent option for Wilder after the Parker fight, there have been talks about a showdown between Wilder and Anthony Joshua (26-3, 23 KOs). Even though it is unknown if Wilder will take up the offer for a rematch with Fury, it will certainly be a treat for fans.
