Derek Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) is all set to face Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) on April 4 at The O2 Arena in London. With the fight approaching, Chisora believes Wilder is still recovering from his fights against Tyson Fury.
Talking to Inside the Ring, Chisora urged that the Fury fights might just have affected his opponent a little too deeply.
“I think Tyson gave Deontay PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). In London, we tried to speak about Tyson and he went nuts on Simon Jordan. We tried to speak about Tyson today with Piers Morgan, and he went nuts as well. Tyson has given him PTSD,” he said.
The Fury vs Wilder trilogy certainly became one of heavyweight boxing’s most brutal rivalries, starting with a controversial draw in 2018, then Fury dominating and stopping Wilder in their 2020 rematch, and finally an all-out war in 2021 where Fury survived multiple knockdowns to stop Wilder again. These punishing defeats, especially the second and third fights where Wilder absorbed heavy damage, may have mentally affected him, as suggested by Chisora. One could say that Fury “broke” him to the point of something like PTSD.

Things got even more intense when Chisora and Wilder both appeared on the TalkSport show hosted by Simon Jordan. When Jordan pressed Wilder hard, questioning his mindset and bringing up his losses to Fury, it led to a tense back-and-forth that nearly escalated. However, Chisora stepped in and defended Wilder, basically saying that only fighters understand what it takes to go through wars like that and that people outside the ring shouldn’t dismiss him. While he wants to stay respectful to his opponent, Chisora acknowledged that his opponent was in a “dark place”.
“He’s very sensitive. He’s in a dark place right now,” he said.
“I’m Going To Smash Him”

Whether Wilder is in a dark place or not, Chisora is confident he’ll give his upcoming opponent a very tough fight.
“I’m going to smash him. I’m coming for him. It’s all love, but when that bell goes off, I need to get to him. If I give him space, it’ll be a long night for me. I have to get to him and smash him up,” he said.
