Although the event was titled “The Last Dance,” it wasn’t, as veteran heavyweight Derek Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) earned a decisive, unanimous decision over Otto Wallin (27-3, 15 KOs) in Manchester, UK, live on DAZN.
All three judges had the fight for Chisora, with the scorecards reading 117-109, 114-112 and 116-110. During the in-ring post-fight interview, Chisora addressed the crowd and, with a poster of Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk & Daniel Dubois being held by his brothers, asked them to choose his next opponent for his 50th fight. The crowd seemed to want the Usyk fight, but Joshua was a close second. Whichever one he gets, Chisora will undoubtedly give it his all, as he did tonight against Wallin.

In the opening round, Chisora wasted no time being aggressive as he came forward while throwing punches. Wallin used his legs and right jab to keep his distance; however, Chisora continued to find a way inside and would take that opportunity to land left and right hooks to the body. Wallin controlled the distance and pace throughout the second round but wasn’t throwing that many punches. He used his jab in spots but did not load up on any shots throughout the round. Chisora kept coming forward and throwing wide hooks. Chisora landed a hard overhand right with seconds remaining before the end of the round.
Although Wallin was using his legs well throughout the third round, he wasn’t throwing enough punches to win the rounds convincingly. Chisora kept moving forward and landed the best punch of the round, an overhand right that rocked Wallin back. The fourth and fifth rounds were almost identical to the previous three, but with Wallin finally throwing more effective punches. The issue was that he was doing so in spots, and throughout the round, Chisora was coming forward and throwing caution to the wind.

A nasty cut surfaced on Chisora’s right eyelid during a clash of heads in the sixth round. While the blood was running down the eye of Chisora, he kept coming forward, showing why he lives by the moniker “War.” Knowing that the cut would affect him, Chisora went all out in the seventh round and Wallin could not keep him off. Wallin was still moving but not throwing enough hard shots to get Chisora’s respect.
The eighth round showed a remarkable surge by Chisora who had Wallin buzzed and leaning on the ropes. The offensive onslaught consisted of about 20 consecutive punches, which you don’t often see from an old heavyweight. Chisora showed his veteran skills in the ninth round when he baited Wallin in and landed a huge right hand that sent Wallin stumbling and down to the canvas for the fight’s first knockdown. Wallin beat the count, but Chisora jumped on him for the rest of the round.

During the championship rounds, it opened with an economical 10th and 11th rounds, but in the 12th, Chisora would land another overhand right, knocking down Wallin for the second time in the fight with just a handful of seconds remaining. This was received with a roar from the crowd as the final bell rang, and Chisora placed an exclamation point on a gutsy performance in Manchester.
