Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) recently announced that he signed to fight Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) in February for the WBC welterweight title. With fans waiting to see him face Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) for their rematch, it looks like Garcia might just have a new supporter for his upcoming fight.
In an interview with Ring Magazine, Haney expressed support for his former opponent, saying he would like to see him win.
“That fight is huge. I’ll be rooting for him. I want him to win so that we can get it on. I can get that redemption,” he said.
It is no surprise that Haney is itching for that rematch against Garcia. While the ruling got overturned due to Garcia’s PED use fiasco, voices are still aloof that ‘KingRy’ was the real winner of the fight. Voices that Haney wishes to quieten.
Moreover, following his disastrous loss to Rolando Romero in May, Garcia needs a win to redeem himself before getting to fight Haney. And if he faces Haney without this redemption, there is a high chance that the fight wouldn’t generate the numbers that it once did.

Haney, on the other hand, was recently seen putting on an impressive performance against Brian Norman Jr., winning the WBO welterweight title in the process. With a new belt in hand, he is certainly confident that he will get to face his old nemesis once again.
“I think it’s a big fight for boxing. It’s a lot of unanswered question marks there for both sides. That fight is going to happen,” he said.
“Didn’t Surprise Me At All”
It seems like this support and respect are mutual. With Haney securing the WBO title, Garcia revealed that he is the last one to be surprised by ‘The Dream’s performance.
“That didn’t surprise me at all. I knew Haney was going to rebound after the Jose Ramirez fight,” he said while talking on social media. “Haney showed me what he usually is, a fast puncher, tricky shot selection, and ultimately knows how to stay out of range. Haney got his confidence once he dropped Norman, and Norman lost all of his confidence and didn’t know how to gain it back. Haney was able to have his way. There was never any real threat after that.”
