Does The Miz Blame Fans For Not Being Able To Face John Cena One Last Time?

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will see the poster child of the sport, John Cena, bid adieu to the world of wrestling with his retirement match against Gunther. As the matchup gathers interest, The Miz says, “I was the first person,” lamenting about not being able to face the legend one last time.

Talking to Jimmy Traina on the SI Media podcast, The Miz opened up about missing the opportunity, while also slyly shifting the blame.

“Literally, two years ago, I was in the ring. I believe it was at Barclays and actually tagging with him, which kind of came full circle with everything. I didn’t think that would be my last match with John Cena, but I guess it will be,” he said. “It’s a little upsetting.”

While their rivalry wasn’t long, it certainly had a few iconic matchups. The duo was the main event for WrestleMania 27; it was the biggest in Miz’s career and undoubtedly one of Cena’s best WrestleMania appearances. Their tag team performances at WrestleMania 33 have also stood the test of time.

The Miz expressed his disappointment at not being able to face Cena one last time. He mentioned that he had hoped for fans’ support to bring it to fruition, but that did not happen.

“And I could sit there and say it’s this, it’s that, it’s the other thing. I don’t know what it is. Could it be the fans did not literally ask for it? And because I mean, when I saw A.J. Styles tweet, and then Cena tweet back, and it’s like, ‘That’s how this could have happened. All I had to do was tweet, and all I had to have was the fans have my back, and say that they truly want this, and be vocal about it? That’s all I needed?‘” he said. “Well, I guess my fans don’t do that, and so, I blame them. Shocking, isn’t it?”

”I Could Be Angry, Right?”

He, however, is trying not remain angry about missing out on the opportunity. During the same podcast, he stated that he’s been in the sport long enough not to stay mad and to focus on future matches.

“I could be angry, right? I could sit there and say, Oh, I’m so mad, I’m so angry,” he said. “I’ve been in WWE long enough that I know things happen, domino effects happen. If something changes, one thing here goes this way, and the other thing goes that way, this thing can’t happen. I’ve been here long enough to know, so I don’t get mad.”
