On Tuesday morning, TMZ reported that domestic violence charges against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis stemming from a June 15 incident in Florida have been dropped.
TMZ reported, “A Miami-Dade County Court official told us the matter was dismissed on Tuesday … nearly two months after the star boxer was accused of roughing up the mother of his two children.”
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) was jailed on July 11 after being pulled over by Doral Police as he had an active warrant for his arrest stemming from allegations of a domestic violence incident on Father’s Day (June 15). Davis bonded out of jail shortly after and was awaiting a court date before the charges were reportedly dropped on Tuesday morning.
Does This Mean We Could Still Get Davis-Roach 2?
It’s been no secret that WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-2, 10 KOs) has been frustrated about not landing the rematch with Davis. He’s gone on social media telling fans that Davis had failed to sign the contract for the rematch. In the middle of that, Davis was jailed, and it was later learned that he hadn’t been in camp for weeks. Sources close to the situation have told FightsATW that Roach was moving on and looking for another top opponent to face next before the end of the year.
With these latest charges being dropped, could we see Davis’ team quickly re-engage Team Roach for a fight in the fall/winter? There is time to still do it, but it will be up to all parties to agree to terms and find a place on the calendar to host what would be one of the most anticipated rematches in 2025.
