Add FightsATW on GoogleZuffa Boxing heads to New York City on Sunday night with a fight card headlined by Edgar Berlanga vs. Steven Butler from the Theater at Madison Square Garden, live on Paramount+. When you look through the fight card, you’ll see that 25-year-old super featherweight Dominique ‘Trapp’ Francis is scheduled to face Hector Sosa (18-4, 9 KOs) in an eight-round fight.
Although ‘Trapp’ Francis (16-0, 10 KOs) has been inactive as of late, Sunday’s fight looks to be a moment to get his momentum going and reintroduce himself to fight fans. His last fight was in October 2024, a fourth-round knockout over Julio Lugo. He hasn’t fought since, so the obvious question is what happened in 2025 that kept him out of the ring.
“It was a lot of business things that made it a little difficult,” Francis told FightsATW. “By the grace of God, I got with a great management team, Fighters First Management, and they put everything in play for me. Now I’m rocking with Zuffa, and it’s flowing like it’s supposed to.”
“I’m still accomplishing at life; being a better father, son, and student. I’m enrolled in school. I’m doing a lot of things. I’m doing music that’s streaming on all platforms. Just because I wasn’t fighting [in the ring], I was fighting [in life] every single day. We were just waiting for a date to display those skills. I was walking fighters out and performing my music, so I’ve stayed level-headed, diligent, and working every day.”
Francis is now with Zuffa, a signing announced by the promotion company a few months ago. The question all the fighters keep getting asked is “Why Zuffa” as opposed to some of the other promoters who have been in boxing longer. The answer to that question is different for each fighter, as they have their own circumstances, but for Francis, he wasn’t shy about explaining his reasoning.
“Everything was going kinda slow,” said Francis. “Every company was saying things that were kinda wishy-washy. I just wanted something definite, certain and that sounded better. I know there’s a lot of bad talk about Zuffa, but there’s always bad talk about stuff that’s new. You gotta start from somewhere. You see, they signed some big fighters, so all the talk is going to fly out the window one day.”
Around the time he signed with Zuffa, Francis, who is also a recording artist, dropped his latest single, “Get Active.” Things began to feel like they were moving in the right direction, and he was catching the wave at the right time.
“It definitely did feel like that [the single dropping after signing with Zuffa],” Francis said while reflecting. “It felt like everything was going the way it was supposed to go. We always want things to happen at a certain time, but it’s really on God’s time. That’s why I was just sitting back and waiting on God’s time.”
Now, Francis has to capitalize even more on the momentum and deliver a big performance in the ring. He will have that opportunity on Sunday against Sosa. Francis admits that Sosa is a “tough competitor,” but that’s what he expects. “We’re going to go in there and do what we do,” said Francis. “He’s not someone who’s going to go in there and lay down, so we are not overlooking him. I’m just ready to get in there and shake and bake.”
This will be the first time Francis gloves up as a pro in New York, and he is confident that the people will naturally gravitate to him and the energy he will bring on fight night. “This is the first time putting my feet down in New York and actually fighting, so I’m expecting love, and even if it ain’t love, it’ll be love after.”
There is a real opportunity for Francis to show Zuffa and fight fans what he’s made of and prove that the delay has been worth it, as it brought him to this moment. Now all that is left is for Francis to deliver on Sunday night and show the world that he is ready to be part of those discussions as someone to watch in the coming years.
