Don King Productions Issues Cease & Desist Order To Sela & TKO on HW Michael Hunter

On Sunday, a heavyweight clash between Michael Hunter (24-1-2, 17 KOs) and Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (26-1-2, 22 KOs) was announced by RING Magazine for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight week on September 11 in Las Vegas, NV. Although this is an intriguing matchup, there is only one issue: Hunter’s promoter, Don King, was unaware of such a fight being signed.

Hours after the announcement, a press release was sent out on behalf of Don King Productions that stated the following:

The world’s greatest boxing promoter, Don King, who has a legal and binding contract with number two heavyweight contender Michael Hunter, has issued a cease and desist order to SELA and TKO Group Holdings, Inc. King, who won the rights to promote the WBA Heavyweight Championship fight between his fighter, Hunter, and WBA Heavyweight Champion Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev in a purse bid and then was victorious in two consecutive appeals to the WBA by Epic Sports and Entertainment.

It has come to King’s attention that there is a fight being promoted on the Sept. 11th Alvarez-Crawford card, naming Hunter and Jarrell Miller. “They continue to disobey the WBA and its clear directive on the Pulev-Hunter championship fight,” said King. “Hunter is under contract to Don King Productions, and he’ll be fighting for a world championship.

With Turki Alalshikh announcing the official undercard on Monday morning through his social media accounts, it appears Hunter vs. Miller will not make the event. Perhaps the demand for this fight will lead to more money being sent to King, ensuring Hunter-Miller makes it to September 11. If not, let this be a lesson to fighters that they need to understand their promotional contracts and that King, at 93, is still able to keep his name somewhat relevant in the sport.
