Don’t Take Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis Lightly, Tim Bradley Warns Devin Haney

Devin Haney (33-1, 15 KOs) and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) have a history of teasing a potential showdown, albeit with negotiations constantly failing. Tim Bradley, however, has a different view of this; according to him, Ennis might just be a tad too much for Haney to handle.

Talking on his YouTube channel, Bradley urged that Ennis was not a good match for Haney.

“Don’t bite off more than you can chew, big dog. You thinking Boots is soft, man. You thinking Boots is easy work, man. I promise you, man. I’m telling you, that’s a bad style matchup for Devin Haney,” he said.

Bradley’s concern makes sense when one looks at style rather than resume. While Haney is a superb tactician, Ennis is a particularly bad stylistic opponent for that kind of fighter. The biggest problem is that Ennis doesn’t necessarily give Haney the kind of fight he wants. ‘The Dream’ thrives when he can dictate range and accumulate clean points. Ennis, on the other hand, is extremely adaptable and, unlike a pure pressure fighter, can counter while moving forward. He has enough speed to enter Haney’s preferred range suddenly and enough power that his opponent can’t simply stand in front of him and trade.

Then there’s the physical problem. Ennis has moved to 154 and is now a champion there after beating Xander Zayas, while Haney is currently campaigning at 147.

“He can match his output, all of that, man. He long, a lot longer than Dev. Yeah, Dev is smart. Yeah, Dev is more calculated with his approach. Yeah, he will have some success, but he going to get his a%s chopped up and chopped down, and Philly walked,” he said.

“You Ain’t Going To”

Meanwhile, Bradley was also quick to remind Haney that he would not be able to deploy the tactics that he used to win against Brian Norman Jr, when facing Ennis.

“You ain’t going to be able to do that with Boots, man. Boots going to let them hands fly. From where they are, he ain’t going to fall in on your ass either. He going to throw them combinations,” he said.
