Eddie Hearn Has A Dire Warning For Anthony Joshua

With Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) gearing up to face Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) on December 19, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that there is a lot of pressure on AJ. As the “weight of boxing” lands heavily on his shoulders, Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn has a word of caution for AJ.

Talking to Sky Sports, Hearn acknowledged Paul’s skills, albeit pointing out that he still falls short of being skilled enough to beat Joshua.

“He is a top 50, in the world, cruiserweight. He is a legitimate cruiserweight now. I just don’t think he’s world-class, and I don’t think there’s any non-world-class cruiserweight that can step up to heavyweight and beat Anthony Joshua,” he said.

It certainly is no surprise that Joshua does not have the luxury to allow Paul to last too long inside the ring. With seven years of professional experience over his upcoming opponent and laurels to show for it, he is answerable for every round that he allows Paul to last in the ring.

Hearn brushed off any notion of the fight being rigged, calling it “illegal” to do so. Moreover, he even commended Paul for signing up for a “real fight”.

But what happens if Joshua ends up losing to Paul? Hearn has a plan of action if that ever happens, and let’s just say that the latter isn’t looking pretty for Joshua.

“Maybe I’m wrong. If I’m wrong, I think my time’s up. Not just AJ and me retire, I think we should all retire. So, AJ, the weight of boxing is on your shoulders, my man!” he said. However, Hearn continues to remain confident about Joshua’s performance in the fight, “I really believe this is going to be a straightforward obliteration.”

“No Escape For Jake Paul”

Despite the warning he gave AJ, Hearn is certain that Paul signed up for more than he can chew. With fight night drawing closer, Hearn stresses that the fight will be a moment of reckoning for Paul.

“There is absolutely no escape for Jake Paul in this fight. You will find out very quickly what this game is all about. And it will not be pleasant for you,” he said. “AJ, he’s got no interest in hanging around. He’s not capable of doing that. He can’t do it because the minute he smells weakness, the minute he smells blood, he’s letting his hands go. And the minute he lets his hands go in this fight, there’s a major problem for Jake Paul.
