Eddie Hearn Laughs Off Jake Paul’s ‘Wobble’ Claims

Jake Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) recently suffered a sixth-round KO loss against Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs). While the fight was a largely one-sided affair with Joshua dominating Paul, ‘El Gallo’ was certain that he left AJ wobbled during a few rounds. Matchroom boss, Eddie Hearn, can only laugh at these claims, because according to him, Paul might as well be talking out of his rear.

In conversation with the Ring Magazine, Hearn trashed Paul’s claims, stating that the scoreboards say otherwise.

“Listen, there was probably a round that was quite close because no one did anything, but I don’t know, it’s strange they haven’t released the scorecards,” he said. “Because I’m sure if they had won rounds, MVP would’ve gone ‘Look!’. I don’t believe he won any rounds on the scorecards, but maybe he did. I don’t know.”

The fight saw Joshua drop Paul four times. ‘El Gallo’ had adopted a defensive strategy for the fight. As a result, Joshua struggled to land powerful punches in the first few rounds, despite targeting Paul’s body and head with jabs and short combinations.

However, Joshua was able to push through these rounds and inflict substantial punishment later on, serving Paul with his first KO loss.

Hearn admitted that the fight was a “horrendous mismatch” and that it was Paul’s job to survive against Joshua. In fact, he was even surprised that he lasted six rounds.

“He definitely didn’t wobble AJ, but he did land, he landed his biggest shots, there were couple of right hands from the Gods,” he said. “But, he’s just not big enough, he doesn’t punch hard enough. I’m sure he got AJ’s attention, but he certainly wasn’t wobbled, but he did really well.”

“I Had Him Wobbled”

Talking with his brother on his Impaulsive podcast, the younger Paul, however, was confident that he had destabilized the imposing Joshua during the fight. But his lack of cardio combined with the pressure of facing a bigger fighter like Joshua undoubtedly led to the outcome not being in his favour.

“I won two rounds, then he won two, then I got dropped. But I was doing good,” he said. “I learned a lot and see where I could have done better. So I’m a little disappointed, but I also know how good he is. But I had him wobbled at one point. I had him wobbled, but he kept his hands up better this fight.”
