Eddie Hearn hopes that Ryan Garcia (24-1-1, 20 KOs) can “get himself in order.”
‘KingRy’ is currently gearing up to face Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo (27-8-1, 14 KOs) at an exhibition showdown on December 30 in Tokyo. Garcia’s promoter and Golden Boy Promotions boss, Oscar De La Hoya, was quick to kick up a storm of disapproval against his plans. With the beef between the duo mounting, Matchroom Boxing’s main man shared his thoughts on the ongoing debacle.
In a recent addition to his ‘Clapback Tuesdays,’ De La Hoya expressed his disappointment with Garcia’s decision to fight Anpo. “I was not there because Ryan’s team thought they could negotiate this deal behind my back,” he said. Moreover, De La Hoya did not hesitate to even threaten to sue Garcia for going against their contract.
“When you sign a contract, it means it’s legally binding. This means you must abide by the terms or risk getting sued. Which is what we unfortunately have to do if Golden Boy is not included in this fight,” he said.
Hearn, on the other hand, did not stay quiet amid the ongoing fiasco. He mentioned that going against a contract is a risky affair, regardless of it being a real fight. “I don’t know the business inside out. I don’t know their contracts. But obviously, if he’s contracted to Golden Boy and they’re not involved, that can cause a problem, even though it’s not a real fight,” he said. Hearn further added that he is more worried about Garcia’s return to professional boxing next year following his suspension.
“Hopefully, he gets himself in order because he’s got a big future in the sport,” he said.
“There Is No Event With Ryan Garcia”
De La Hoya is certainly standing firm on his decision against Garcia’s exhibition fight. In a post on X from a few days prior, the Golden Boy boss mentioned that the promotional company owned exclusive rights to Garcia’s fights.
Golden Boy Promotions has exclusive rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights. The organizers of this event have acknowledged as such and have agreed in writing that our sign-off is needed for this event to occur. As no such sign-off has been given, as of today there is no event with Ryan…

“Our sign-off is needed for this event to occur. As no such sign-off has been given, as of today, there is no event with Ryan Garcia,” he said.
Garcia, however, refuted these statements and alleged that Golden Boy president Eric Gomez was aware of the exhibition and extended his support. Moreover, he mentioned that De La Hoya was even invited to the event.
