Edgar Berlanga Labels Oscar De La Hoya A ‘Stripper’

Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) was a cannon let loose (and that’s putting it lightly) at the recent press conference.

‘The Chosen One,’ who is set to face Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens on Saturday, was a lot more focused on Golden Boy Promotions boss, Oscar De La Hoya, than his opponent during the pre-fight presser. As tensions grew between the duo, their statements were anything but muted, and curse words flowed like booze at a frat party.

While he began with more subdued actions (PS nothing compared to what happens later), such as flipping the bird and casual insults, things quickly took a rather dramatic turn. Berlanga opened his bag and pulled out women’s underwear, a wig, and dollar bills, and flung them at De La Hoya in front of a shocked crowd.

“I got a f*cking gift for my little f*cking stripper. Remember this sh*t? Remember that sh*t?” he said while throwing the items.

This was in reference to the viral photo of De La Hoya from 2007, where he was dressed in women’s underwear and donning a wig, fishnets, and high heels. Even before the press conference, Berlanga was vocal about his dislike for the Golden Boy and had even threatened him with physical violence.

While De La Hoya initially laughed it off, it quickly became a tad bit much for him to stay quiet. He hit back at Berlanga by questioning his Puerto Rican heritage.

“I do, actually! First of all, sit down. You have no world titles. Let me put them on now! I’ve got some right here for you! Listen to me, this guy is not even Puerto Rican! I’ve been asking for your Puerto Rican passport! I’m more Puerto Rican than you! Your jewelry is as fake as your wins!” he retorted.

He even taunted Berlanga to attack him (referring to Berlanga’s previous threat of physical violence). However, security quickly intervened to prevent things from getting out of hand.

“We’re Going To Smack The Sh*t Out of You”

This fiasco from Berlanga was surprisingly an expected one. During Wednesday’s open workouts, he reignited his old beef with De La Hoya and vowed to assault him during the press conference.

“F*ck Oscar De La Hoya, f*ck you,” Berlanga said. “I’m going to see you tomorrow, we’re going to smack the sh*t out of you tomorrow.”
