Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) is currently gearing up to face Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) in a quadruple header at Louis Armstrong Stadium, New York, on Saturday. While the fight preparation is in full swing, the only loss of his career, to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs), sticks out as a sore reminder. Berlanga, however, is not letting the loss get to his head, and he might just have a few plans for his vengeance arc.
On his latest appearance on ‘The Breakfast Club’, Berlanga shed light on his loss to Alvarez and delved into the intricacies of refocusing his energy following it.
“It wasn’t really a loss,” he said. “I mean, it was a great fight. And I bounced back pretty good. You know what I’m saying. I came back with a first-round knockout.”
Berlanga revealed that he wishes to treat the fight as a learning curve and even admitted that he gained substantial experience from the fight.
‘The Chosen One’ fought Alvarez for the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, in 2024. However, he lost Alvarez by decision, which paved the way for a six-month-long hiatus and a subsequent return with an explosive first-round KO against Jonathan Gonzalez Ortiz.

With his fight against Alvarez, Berlanga is proud to have gone head-to-head with a legend without any prior experience or adequate preparation. “I’m the only one in my generation that fought a legend, you feel me,” he added.
However, while he respects Alvarez as a fighter, this respect was seldom (if ever) returned. Alvarez even went on with a rather seething tirade of disrespect after the fight, accusing Berlanga of trying to run away from him during the fight.
With all this drama showing no sign of leaving his side, Berlanga is trying to focus all his energy on his upcoming fight against Sheeraz. He is certainly eyeing a rematch, but only after finding his spot in the pedestals of boxing. “I want one. But I need to make my mark first,” he said. “I need to knock this dude (Sheeraz) out.”
“I’m The Biggest Fighter He Could Fight At 168”

Meanwhile, the hosts brought up the fact that Alvarez was preparing to fight Terence Crawford. And with the looming possibility of Crawford beating Alvarez, he was asked about the probability of facing Crawford.
“Of course, he’s got all the belts. I’m the biggest fighter he could fight at 168,” he said without skipping a beat. Berlanga further went on to make his prediction for the fight, “To be honest, man, Canelo’s just got the size difference. Bud is a two-time world champion. Bud got the IQ, he got everything.”
