Eddie Hearn is the ‘reason’ why Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) is not the IBF super middleweight champion according to the 27 year old super middleweight contender.
Berlanga was last seen dishing out a first-round knockout against Jonathan Ortiz and becoming the NABO super middleweight champion. Meanwhile, his beef against his former promoter and Matchroom boss, Eddie Hearn, has been a perpetual spectacle over the last few weeks. And, now, Berlanga is back, louder and with no sign of slowing down.
In conversation at the Mr. Jay Hill Network show, Berlanga delved into how Hearn’s decisions cost him the IBF title.
“People don’t know, see the guy (William Scull) that Canelo is fighting right now, with IBF. Me and him spoke, and he was telling me (to) send him a contract, right. He knows he can make money with me. He wanted $1.5 million to fight with me,” he said. “But, the promoter I was with, with Eddie Hearn. He didn’t want to pay that. You feel me.”
According to Berlanga, paying his opponent $1.5 million and paying him $6 to $7 million wasn’t a financial decision that Hearn was willing to take. He, however, unsuccessfully tried to convince Hearn to pay Scull the money so that he could fight and potentially secure the IBF title.

Berlanga mentioned that if things had gone as planned, he would have been the one facing Alvarez. However, the regret of that fight not reaching fruition has certainly left a mark on him.
“Bro, I had this sh*t planned out bro. If I was doley bro, like I am now, I would’ve made that fight happen with PBC,” he said.
“We’ve Completely Changed His Life”
While Hearn has yet to respond to this fresh callout, he wasted no time ripping into Berlanga the last time he made this accusation. Talking to FightHype, Hearn revealed that Scull had, in fact, demanded a lot more than $1.5 million. Moreover, he mentioned that Berlanga had headlined three of his fights with Matchroom.
“He made over $12 million with us. We’ve completely changed his life and his career. What we’ve done is we’ve delivered everything we ever promised and more. We’re doing that again on Saturday night. It’s a good fight for him to get back to his winning ways and then move on to a bigger fight. If that’s with us, fantastic. We’d love to continue that relationship,” he said. “If it’s not, we say, ‘Good luck, Edgar. We completely delivered over and above our wildest dreams for you.”
