Eric Bischoff believes that there is no hope for AEW (All Elite Wrestling).
While Tony Khan and AEW have their share of critics, the recent ratings have been anything but favorable. AEW’s recent outings have not been able to hold a candle to the storylines and showdowns that Triple H conjured. Racing against WWE’s NXT over the past few weeks, AEW has always ended up with the shorter end of the stick.
The professional wrestling booker and former WCW boss recently trashed AEW, particularly highlighting their inability to make good storylines.
Biscoff was a guest on the latest episode of The Ariel Helwani Show. Talking about the wrestling organization, he minced no words while voicing his frustration.
“They’re horrible. I’ve given up. You know what? I used to get really frustrated with them because I actually hate seeing people screw up good opportunities,” he said. “Now, it’s just like, yeah, whatever. It is what it is. There’s no hope for them. Nothing’s going to turn their company around.” Biscoff further mentioned that AEW’s storylines are extremely underwhelming. Even calling it entertainment that only “the lowest form of wrestling intellect on the planet finds enjoyment” in. While the athletes showcase athletically impressive performances, the bad storylines don’t do them any justice.
“As Tony calls them, it’s for the sickos. First, why would you want to call your fans sickos because the majority of them prefer not to be called that. Just a hint. Tony’s vision for the company, I guess, is to provide content for that percentage of the audience that only cares about high risk, high altitude, fast-paced action and not about story and not about characters,” he said.
“I Love The Idea”
Meanwhile, Bischoff absolutely loves the WWE ID program. WWE’s Independent Development ( ID) is a program that aims to provide independent wrestlers with a clear pathway to a potential career in WWE.
“I love the idea. I’m very interested in the independent side of things. I think there’s not only a great opportunity business wise, I think there is a great opportunity for young talent,” he said while talking to Helwani. Bischoff further gave an example of how NFL players are recruited from college football and gave an insight into how the chain leads back to school and smaller local leagues. However, the same cannot be said about where wrestlers come from.
“There is not a sophisticated development ground outside of WWE or TNA or AEW. Right, there is the independency, but it’s not very sophisticated, it’s not very organized, it’s not very structured. So, you don’t get quite as much out of it as you could. But, I think what WWE is doing, I’m not familiar with their business model or what they’re attempting to do,” he said. “But, from the outside looking in, I think they’re making a real good move, and it will benefit everybody.”
