Filip Hrgovic (17-0, 14 KOs) destroyed Mark De Mori (41-3-2, 36 KOs) in the first round of their fight and scored a TKO victory. Hrgovic didn’t break a sweat as he landed a big right hand that sent De Mori down for the fight’s first knockdown. After De Mori got up, Hrgovic swarmed him with punches, and De Mori turned his back, prompting the referee to stop the fight.
After the fight, Hrgovic said, “I’m looking forward to my title shot and the big fight in the future. He’s (De Mori) a brave guy. Thanks to him and his team for accepting the fight. Thanks to Saudi Arabia and his excellency. I think this is what boxing needs.”
This was an IBF eliminator, and Chris Mannix asked Hrgovic about his title shot next year. Hrgovic said, “IBF declared that I am the next in July, and I should fight the winner of (Tyson) Fury and (Oleksandr) Usyk. Mannix mentioned the possibility of fighting the next ranked contender (which could be Jared Anderson) if Fury & Usyk do a rematch. Hrgovic smirked when he heard Anderson’s name and said, “Jared Anderson is for breakfast. For this kid, it’s not smart to fight with me.”
It’ll be interesting to see how the chips fall, but one thing is for sure: Hrgovic will get his title shot in the summer.
