Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois Fight Results: Dubois Scores 8th Rd TKO

Heavyweight Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) performed well as he scored an eighth-round TKO victory over Filip Hrgovic (17-1, 14 KOs) to become the interim IBF heavyweight champion. During the eighth round, the referee called a halt to the action and asked the ringside physician to look at Hrgovic’s cuts. After a recommendation from him, the referee decided to stop the fight.

Although Dubois came out strong in the first round, it was Hrgovic’s 1-2 down the middle that couldn’t miss. Dubois would adjust and land a looping overhand right on top of Hrgovic’s left jab, but it appeared that Hrgovic was landing the harder shots. Dubois roared back in the second round with an overhand left and right, which rocked Hrgovic on multiple occasions. Hrgovic would land big straight right hands, but that wasn’t enough to slow down Dubois. Towards the end of the round, a punch from Dubois opened a cut over Hrgovic’s right eye.

Hrgovic appeared fatigued in the third round, and Dubois took full advantage of the moment with left and right hooks to Hrgovic’s head. Dubois’ confidence began to rise at this moment of the fight. Hrgovic bounced back in the fourth round as he landed a ton of straight right hands, but the blood coming down his right eye did not allow him to see Dubois’ left jab.

The fifth round was filled with back-and-forth action as Dubois landed several overhand rights, and Hrgovic landed just as many straight right hands down the middle. Dubois had a solid sixth round as Hrgovic threw one punch at a time and looked fatigued. Dubois was also tired but looked better on his feet than Hrgovic.

Dubois landed a massive overhand right in the seventh round that had Hrgovic hurt badly. Dubois would then land a left hook and then another huge right hand that had Hrgovic land on the ropes. The round ended, saving Hrgovic from a potential knockout. Dubois would jump all over Hrgovic in the eighth round, forcing the referee to have the doctor examine Hrgovic, leading to the end of the fight.

Dubois has now placed his name in the Anthony Joshua lottery for September at Wembley Stadium in the United Kingdom.
