Another day in boxing, another Floyd Mayweather Jr (50-0, 27 KOs) vs. Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) 2 announcement. The latest update includes a new venue and date, with May-Pac 2 reportedly set for Friday, September 25, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, on Netflix.
On Thursday, Mayweather held a press conference to announce his June 27 exhibition bout against kickboxing legend Mike Zambidis, which will stream live on pay-per-view. During the press conference, Mayweather said the rematch with Pacquiao would be finalized within “the next 48 hours.” On Friday, the Ring’s Mike Coppinger tweeted the following:
“Breaking: Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to terms on an amended deal for a professional fight on Netflix being planned for Sept. 25 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur tells @ringmagazine.
These new details were questioned, as ESPN’s Andreas Hale would later tweet, “According to sources close to the situation, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao 2 is NOT yet confirmed for Sept. 25 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, that date and Sept. 26 at MGM Grand Garden Arena are under consideration.”
Hale would follow up with another tweet saying, “There have been contradicting reports about the date and location of the amended agreement for Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 to be a professional boxing match. Nothing is confirmed until Team Mayweather, Team Pacquiao, and most importantly, Netflix, are on the same page.”

This has been the story since the initial Netflix announcement in February, which broke social media when they said the rematch would take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Following the announcement, Mayweather publicly said the rematch would be an exhibition and that the deal wasn’t done. Then there were reports that Mayweather had received a substantial cash advance from Netflix for the fight, making previous comments seem contradictory. Now, with this latest news from Coppinger, it adds another chapter to the May-Pac 2 saga.
Organizers should be aware that the back-and-forth mixed messages aren’t helping promote the fight. In fact, they’re hurting it, and if they don’t get this sorted out soon, people will care even less. What should happen now is for things to be finalized, and the next announcement should be the date of the press conferences in New York, LA, and Las Vegas. Until then, keep updates to a minimum until things are finally ironed out.
