Floyd Mayweather Will Officially Come Out of Retirement After Mike Tyson Exhibition

In a day filled with major announcements, none was bigger than Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KOs) revealing that he will come out of retirement to fight professionally after his Spring exhibition with Mike Tyson scheduled to take place in Africa.

Mayweather has signed an exclusive agreement with CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS®, who will be responsible for organizing his professional fights. The press release stated that Mayweather will have his first pro bout since the 2017 fight with Conor McGregor sometime this summer.

The timing of the announcement comes days after Mayweather’s former rival Manny Pacquiao announced an exhibition on April 18 in Las Vegas against Ruslan Provodnikov. Pacquiao said last year that he had been in talks with Mayweather for a rematch as a pro fight, not an exhibition. Could this be the first step toward that?

Mayweather commented on the announcement, saying, “I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing – from my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards – no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money with each event – then my events. And I plan to keep doing it with my global media partner, CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS®,” said Mayweather.

The rest of the press release stated the following:

CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS® exclusive deal with Mayweather positions the company at the forefront of major global sports events, reinforcing its commitment to delivering marquee events and historic matchups to fans worldwide. Additional details, including event dates, broadcast information, and the professional opponent for Mayweather’s first sanctioned return will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Regardless of how this turns out or who Mayweather chooses to fight as a pro, the fans will tune in to see if Mayweather can still perform at a high level when it counts the most.
