Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) is all set to test his mettle for the WBA lightweight title in a sensational showdown against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday. Fans have undoubtedly been divided on the potential outcome of the fight. Martin, on the other hand, seems confident that he will “take this sh*t over.”
Martin was talking at his Grand Arrival in Las Vegas. In conversation, he delved into his plans to beat Davis and take over the division.
“I’m feeling good. We’ve been training for a while. I’m locked in. I’m focused. You know, the whole goal was to come out here and beat him, and I’m ready to take the spot, and I’m here for a reason. I ain’t here just to be here, I’m here to take this sh*t over,” he said.
Davis further mentioned that he was confident in his skillset and the training that he put in. He is certain these factors will help him beat Davis. “Cause I’m different. I got some things: I got speed, I got power, I got IQ. I feel like I got it all. Ya’ll gonna see. When it’s time to bite down, the world gonna see,” he said. “We got this fight Saturday, and I’m going to whoop his ass…we got Saturday to show who’s who.”
“He Has A Chance To Win”
While there has been a divided opinion about the fight’s potential outcome, many fans have noted that Davis’ raw power and experience might be helpful. However, former world champion Wayne McCullough believes Martin’s chances shouldn’t be undermined.
“If he can avoid the big shots from Tank, he has a chance to win. Tank is used to winning inside the distance and is probably expecting the same in this fight,” he said in an interview with the Ring.
“He has to start quick as he has been out of the ring for over a year. His right jabs will set up his lefts which I think he will catch Martin with easily. Tank will catch Martin’s head with straight lefts and some left uppercut to get the KO in around the fifth round.”
