According to promoter Frank Warren, the Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) vs. Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) will be about quality.
‘Dynamite’ is gearing up to defend his IBF heavyweight title against Parker as a part of the iconic Riyadh Season event headlined by the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol rematch. Meanwhile, Parker, who is currently the interim WBO heavyweight champion, will lose his position as the interim champion once the opening bell rings. Warren is undoubtedly expecting a sensational showdown between the duo, a fight that he admits is all about “quality.”
Warren recently sat down for DAZN’s Face Off with Dubois, Parker and Andy Lee. In conversation, the English promoter admitted that Dubois has had a fantastic year and has proved to be a force to be reckoned with. “He was magnificent. He had a fabulous year, and more importantly, he showed everybody what he was about,” he said. “He’s matured mentally. He’s got a great attitude. We know he’s got the power; we know he’s a confident fighter. He’s got a really good jab.”
Warren further mentioned that both Dubois and Parker are young and hungry. And neither fighter was taking the fight lightly. Which, in turn, would ensure a treat for fans. “It’s about self-belief. They have shown what they’re all about. That means everybody is going to get a good fight. It’s going to be a quality, quality fight, no doubt about it,” he said.
Dubois vs Parker is set to take place on February 22, 2025.
“Upset The Apple Cart”
While Andy Lee is in agreement that Dubois had a great year, he argued that Parker was the one who turned the tides in the division, especially when it comes to disrupting the order of fights that have been planned. “He’s the one that has upset the apple cart, Joseph. There’s been plans for fights to be made, and he’s stepped in and upset those plans,” he said.
He added that while Dubois has a great jab and great power. Parker is planning to continue his chain of disruption on February 22.“Maybe not as fast as Joe, maybe not as good at footwork as Joe. What Joe has is intelligence. He’s a clever, clever fighter. That’s how we defused the power of Deontay Wilder; that’s how we outsmarted Zhang,” he said.
