In barely a day, Shera Mae Patricio (7-0, 3 KOs) will face former WBA female super flyweight world title holder, Maribel Ramirez (15-13-4, 3 KOs) as part of the Elijah Pierce vs Lorenzo Parra fight card at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. With barely hours left for fight night, Patricio hopes to do what she does best: stay locked in.
In an exclusive interview with FightsATW, she delved into her hopes for her career and her wish to inspire future generations.
“In high school, I was actually focused on the Olympics. Which I won Olympic trials, but then because of my qualifications, I didn’t get to make it to the Olympics because I took second in the last two Olympic Qualifiers,” she said. “During high school, I was looking towards like the medical way. But I was locked in, I really wanted to pursue my boxing career.”
Once out of high school, Patricio started working as a dental receptionist and slowly eased her way into the role of a dental assistant, all while pursuing her pugilistic dreams alongside. She turned pro in September 2024, which halted her Olympic dreams. However, that certainly did not stop her from dishing out back-to-back victories, including her most recent win against Moni Trejo in December.
Training at her family’s gym, built in her grandfather Nito Lameg’s warehouse in Hawaii, Patricio’s style effortlessly transitions between a power-packed iron-fisted galore to technically waiting and playing the long game. She is considered one of the top boxing talents from Hawaii and appears around #4 in the WBA’s female bantamweight rankings.
She hopes that her performances and work ethic will serve as an example for all the youngsters who wish to pick up boxing.
“I’m doing this because God wants me to lead the way for my siblings and all the younger youth who’s looking up to me. Like I see so many kids boxing, so many clubs. So once they see me do it, they all can do it too,” she said.
“Ease My Way Through The Rankings”
Patricio is certainly locked in. But will this upcoming fight be her trump card for a title shot against the undisputed champion, Cherneka Johnson? In Patricio’s words, of course it does.
“I’m easing my way because I’m already ranked in the IBF, WBC and WBA. Now I’m just trying to up my rankings,” she said. “My last fight I was fighting for WBA Continental which got me onto the rankings more ahead, which got me to rank number 4. And now I’m trying to ease my way through the rankings and get that opportunity to fight for a title.”
