Fulghum vs Alexander Fight Results: DFG Earns UD On DAZN

The platform was all set up for light heavyweight Darius Fulghum (12-0, 10 KOs) to make his presence as the division’s next up-and-coming contender, but instead, the fight turned out to be a glorified sparring session. Yes, there was a last-minute replacement, but Fulghum did not capture the imagination of those in attendance on Thursday night. Fulghum earned the unanimous decision over Vaughn Alexander (18-12-1, 11 KOs), but let’s just say he won’t be headlining at the Fantasy Springs Resort & Casino anytime soon. The judges saw this 98-92, 99-91 & 98-92 for Fulghum.

Fulghum was very careful in the first round as he threw a small number of punches, while Alexander barely threw any punches. In the second round, Fulghum increased his activity by touching Alexander with his punches at every opportunity and only loading up when there was an opening. Fulghum used a ton of feints to see what Alexander was giving him as far as punch opportunities.

The boo birds began to rain down in the third round as the pity patty punches from Fulghum wasn’t cutting the mustard with the fans at the Fantasy Springs Arena. Also, Alexander refused to throw anything significant throughout the round. The fourth round had the feeling of a sparring session, and once again, the crowd started booing as both fighters didn’t appear to be motivated to throw any big punches and instead preferred to throw soft shots.

Rounds five through ten were full of Fulghum throwing soft punches with a hard one mixed in occasionally while Alexander covered up. The crowd would head to the exit doors at the end of the fifth round and were more entertained by the fight in the crowd than the one in the ring. Fulghum earned the unanimous decision but has plenty of work to do before being deemed the next great young fighter in the division.

‘Sweet Tea’ Kalkreuth Scores An Uneventful Unanimous Decision

After a decent amount of action occurred throughout the undercards, cruiserweights Tristan Kalkreuth (14-1, 10 KOs) and Anthony Hollaway (22-6-1, 19 KOs) produced a fight that lacked entertainment value. Ultimately, all three judges scored it 99-91 for Kalkreuth, giving him the unanimous decision victory.

It was a feel-out opening round as both fighters tried to establish distance. Hollaway had balance issues, and Kalkreuth couldn’t find his range. Kalkreuth came out in the second round much sharper as he landed a clean overhand right and, in a series towards the end of the round, a solid left hook to the head of Holloway, who had a tough time landing his punches.

In the third round, Kalkreuth showed patience and threw fewer punches but more precise ones. Hollaway had no answer to the punches and was throwing wild shots. Hollaway had some moments in the fourth round, but they weren’t enough. Kalkreuth was landing hard left hooks to the body and left uppercuts that were getting through Hollaway’s guard. Both fighters took a breather in the fifth round as they held more than any other round.

Rounds six through ten were almost identical as Kalkreuth would land two punches, leading to an immediate hold from Hollaway. The fight made it to the final bell, and the biggest ovation of the fight began afterward.

Grant Flores Runs Over Josias Gonzalez In Three Rounds

Everyone in the arena seemed to be waiting for junior middleweight Grant Flores (5-0, 4 KOs) to do something big, and he did just that. Flores scored a crushing third-round knockout victory over Josias Gonzalez (2-3-1) to pick up his fifth win.

Flores wanted to establish his left jab, but Gonzalez kept lending an overhand left, which stopped him in his tracks. Flores landed a huge straight right hand that got Gonzalez’s attention, but the southpaw kept coming forward and landing good overhand lefts to Flores’ head. Although Gonzalez was landing wild left and right hooks, he left himself open down the middle, and Flores took advantage of those moments each time. In the third round, Flores landed a huge straight right hand, sending Flores to the canvas as he could not beat the ten count. Flores gave those in attendance their pound of flesh, and he walked away with a knockout victory.

Leonardo Sanchez Overcomes Slow Start & Scores 4th Round KO

Lightweight Leonardo Sanchez (7-0, 6 KOs) had an extremely slow start, but it was bad news for Jenel Lausa (11-4-1, 7 KOs) when he got going. Sanchez scored the fourth-round knockout as he picked up his seventh victory.

Sanchez began the first round slow and telegraphed many of his punches, leading to Lausa landing clean counter punches. Lausa punched with Sanchez, which worked for him in the opening round. Sanchez woke up in the second round and landed a crushing left hook that buzzed Lausa. Sanchez’s relentless pressure began to get to Lausa.

Sanchez had a huge third round, scoring two knockdowns. The first came from a left hook to the head, which sent Sanchez down, then a left hook to the body, which looked right at the beltline, sent Sanchez down again in the round. Sanchez went after Lausa in the fourth round and landed a huge left hook to the head, leading to the fight’s end.

Cayden Griffiths Earns Impressive Knockout Victory In HIs Pro Debut

Cayden Griffiths (1-0, 1 KO) had half of the Fantasy Springs Arena cheering him on in his pro debut, and he did not disappoint as he stopped Juan Romero (0-2) in the second round of their fight.

Griffiths came out aggressive in the fight’s opening round as he wanted to impress in his pro debut. After flashing a fast, straight right hand, Griffiths landed a left hook to the body forcing Romero to take a knee. Romero would get up and finish the round. In the second round, Griffiths would land a left hook to the head of Romero, forcing him to take a knee once again for the second knockdown of the fight. This time, he would not get up, and the referee waived off the fight.
