Gabriela Fundora on Saturday’s Fight In Anaheim: ‘Expect Me To Steal The Show’

One of the most entertaining fighters in women’s boxing returns Saturday night live from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, live on DAZN. Undisputed flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora defends her titles against Viviana Ruiz Corredor (10-2, 5 KOs) in a scheduled ten-round bout on the undercard of Arnold Barboza Jr. vs. Kenneth Sims Jr.

The 23-year-old Fundora, fighting out of Coachella, CA, has been nothing short of dominant since turning professional in 2021. Her brother Sebastian is the WBC junior middleweight champion, and he has a fight against Keith Thurman in two weeks. That’s why Gabriela didn’t hesitate when she confidently said, “It’s going to be an exciting Fundora month.”

This will be Fundora’s first fight this year after only stepping into the ring twice in 2025. Fundora likes to stay active, and she aims to deliver a three-fight year each time. It’s the one thing she wanted to accomplish that she couldn’t last year, and with her second fight in September, the timing just didn’t work out. Nonetheless, the fights themselves provided experience she can use, if necessary, in the future, even though they ended in stoppages.

“I think they were two really good, exciting fights, and I got to be the main event in one of them,” Fundora told FightsATW. “That was really good and a big step for women’s boxing.”

Fundora continued, “The fights themselves, I learned that I still have power. It was more about the training, growing, and maturing of it, taking my time, and just enjoying the moment. When I’m in the ring, I’m able to just take it all in. I can see the punch that is going to end the fight, and I just take it in.”

Will Viviana Ruiz Corredor Be the Ultimate Test for Gabriela Fundora?

Saturday’s opponent, Corredor, is nearly twice Fundora’s age at 43, but that brings valuable experience and the WBA interim title. Corredor began her pro career in the same year as Fundora (2021), though she started late. Despite that, Corredor still managed to earn an interim title, which qualified her for the fight with Fundora.

While every training camp is different, the core of Fundora’s support system—her father and brother—remains unchanged. “Every training camp we add new things, but we cannot say it,” said Fundora. “Why would I give away my recipe (laughs). As for the team, we keep it the same—small; my father and my brother are in the corner.”

The one fact about her opponent, Corredor, is that although she was born in Colombia, she resides in Australia, and, as Fundora was quick to point out, the Fundora family has had success against opponents from Australia. “The Fundoras have a good connection with Australia being my brother fought with (Tim) Tszyu.”

When you watch a Gabriela Fundora fight, you expect big punches being exchanged and either a knockout or stoppage. So as much as she wants to predict a knockout, Fundora just prefers to please the crowd that will fill the Honda Center on Saturday. “Expect a good time. Expect me to steal the show.”

What’s Ahead For Gabriel Fundora? 105? 115?

With Fundora continuing her dominance at 112 pounds, there has been talk of her moving down to 105 or up to 115. When asked about it, Fundora prefers that the answer come from her higher power.

“It’s up to God. A week before the fight, I’m at 113 pounds, which is only a pound over the flyweight limit. I’m trying to gain weight, but God said not yet. Whenever God tells me to move up or down, then we will. Until then, I’m fine defending all the belts. I want to defend all the belts five times because they give you a ring each time. Once I do that, I can look at transitioning to another weight class. I want to collect all of the rings so I can look like Thanos (A character from Marvel’s Avengers).”

One thing is certain: Fundora will turn that smile into a stone face when she enters the ring, and usually, what happens next is an entertaining fight. Will we see another dominant performance, or will Corredor be the one to give Fundora something to think about? They fight on Saturday Night Live on DAZN.
