Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) is not hanging up his boxing gloves for good.
‘Tank’ Davis is currently gearing up to defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-1, 10 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, on March 1. Meanwhile, he has expressed his desire to bid adieu to the sport that made him a household name, much to the dismay of fans. However, it now looks like he might be having second thoughts about retiring from the sport of boxing.
Speaking to rapper Lil Yachty on his ‘A Safe Place Podcast,’ Davis opened up about potentially taking a U-turn from his retirement plans.
“Yeah, I’ve been having those thoughts,” he said when asked if he had reconsidered his decision to retire. “I want to get myself together. I really want to get myself together. Not retire, but take a break. I ain’t gonna lie, I already made a promise to Al we out of it.”

Davis stressed the need for his involvement in his children’s lives, which further pushed his decision to take a break from the sport. Moreover, he wishes to build himself as a person and as a better human being. However, while a break is in the books, Davis certainly has a plan for the future of his career. When Yatchy asked him if the fight against Roach would be the last one, he gave a rather sly response, reassuring fans about explosive showdowns to come.
“I have more plans. Definitely some more heads on the wall,” he said.
“Just A Power Puncher”
Meanwhile, a “head” just might be waiting for Davis in the form of Keyshawn Davis, who issued a callout. But victory might not come easy for the Baltimore native. According to Keyshawn’s coach, Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre, Davis would have to level up before fighting him.
“We already know Gervonta Davis; just a power puncher. He could box a little bit,” Bomac said while talking to FightHype. “But you know Keyshawn is just on a different level right now.”
However, Bomac is certain that the fight will be an entertaining one for fans. While he sees ‘Tank’ trying to knock him out initially, the later rounds will see ‘The Businessman’s skillset come into play when he stops him.
